Loaiza21
Dunno if this has been posted, it was Uribe's pre-2003 scouting report on ESPN.com: Hitting The biggest question Uribe faces is whether he'll hit enough to play every day. He has a two-piece swing, bringing his bat back, stopping, and starting over again. There is no fluidity. He is young, so he could adjust. He has a problem with breaking balls, which is compounded by the fact he doesn't force pitchers to throw strikes. He was particularly exposed on the road. Uribe is a good bunter, but has hit his way into the No. 8 slot, where bunting isn't as much of a factor. Baserunning & Defense Uribe likes to run the bases. However, he is not a blazer and never will be a huge basestealing threat. He is a plus runner though, and the speed shows up when he hits the ball in the gaps. He has 18 triples in 839 big league at-bats. Uribe has special defensive skills. Scouts rate his arm, range and hands near the top of the scale. He reads the ball very well off the bat, but has to concentrate better. All but a handful of his errors come on routine plays, as he tends to get a little lackadaisical. whitesoxin'
That's not what you want your "big" accusition to be. Solid D though and thats what we need because we have plenty of offense as long as Konerko and Maggs don't get traded.
BrandoFan
This "scout report" tells us nothing that we didn't already now from watching the guy a few times on TV: --Good speed, however intincts need polishing (slow Jose will talk to him) --Can bunt (which would make him only a 4th Sox player who can actually do it. Olivo, Jose and Rowand are the other) --Can already hit lefties well (and has potential to hit righties as well but swing not fluid enough and SZ judgementinadequate). --Gold Glove-caliber defensive tools. (Then again Valentin has been riding his unfullfilled potential for 12 seasons, so it's far from money in the bank) --Early stage of D'Angelo Syndrom. Reasonable chances of recovery. Dick Allen
Doesn't exactly sound like the "grinder" type KW was looking to acquire. He has talent and still is very young though.
witesoxfan
1. He has way more upside the DJ ever had, or will have. I disagree. D'Angelo has all the potential in the world. If he had any work ethic whatsoever, he would be one of the best 2Bman in the league.
