WHITE SOX AGREE TO TERMS ON ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

WITH RIGHT-HANDER TOM GORDON

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent pitcher Tom Gordon. The move was announced this afternoon by Ken Williams, White Sox general manager.

Gordon, 35, went 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA (16 ER/42.2 IP) and no saves in 34 relief appearances with the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros in 2002. He missed most of the first half of 2002 with a Teres Major muscle tear in the back of his right shoulder.

The 5-10, 190-pound right-hander made his debut on July 2 and finished the season with an average of 10.1 strikeouts (48 SO) per 9.0 IP. Gordon, who was traded by the Cubs to the Astros on August 20, compiled a 0.92 ERA (2 ER/

19.2 IP) in 15 outings from August 10-September 12, including scoreless streaks of 8.2 IP and 10.0 IP.

Over his 14-year career, Gordon is 106-101 with a 4.11 ERA (792 ER/

1,733.0 IP), 1,546 strikeouts and 98 saves in 525 games (203 starts). Gordon’s best season as a reliever came in 1998 with Boston when he recorded a league-leading 46 saves.

then that proves that KW likes you better...

the ones that I usually get are from my ticket rep, although I get other ones from the Sox sometimes that are not always identical so who knows. I just forward them on to my friends who think I have some super in with the WS.

Good move as long as he shuts his mouth and does his job. If i wanted to hear any s*** out of flash, I'd squeeze his head.

I know little about the guy - what is that about, about him talking s*** - someone said the same thing on the MLB boards

He was b****ing , moaning and pissing up a storm and acting like a little baby because the cubs werent using him as the closer. He went to the papers every week and it was the same crap.

That's my only fear with him. Plus, i just think he's a prick. :D

I don't think he'll b**** about not closing for the Sox.

His beef was a good one....they had Alfon-six-a closing...the six-fingered freak. He sucks at closing. Gordon is a better closer than Alfon-six-a, even when he's recovering from surgery. Atleast he wouldn't give up a 3-run homer to Edgar Renteria like Alfon-six-a did....here, he's setting up Billy Koch. Billy Koch is a bit better than Antonio Alfon-six-a.
