WHarris1
On the Bulls pre they said that around the end of the show they are gonna talk about the Sox "shoveling more coal on the hot stove" and it flashed pictures of Konerko and Ponson. Tune in if you want, but I dunno if it's important.

WHarris1
Pretty much said: Score reported Sox are talking with LA for PK deal (Duh) Ponson would possibly then come Nothing new there.
Wise Master Buehrle
All they said was that Ponson is still available... heh.
Rex Hudler
I'd like to see how they plan to fit Ponson into the payroll. Trading Konerko would save $8 million, but the Sox are supposedly $4 million over budget. I guess we will find out how flexible that $58 million is over the next month or two. Guest JimH
Rex, yes, it will be interesting. Some of the other boards are saying the $58M figure is something Williams has been talking about in (with) the press but that no firm # has actually been developed. So who knows. What I think is happening, is all of this is NOT budget related. I really feel they know who they want to keep and not keep ... not just from a salary perspective but from a skills-clubhouse-upside point of view. My guess is both Konerko and Ordonez are on the "outs". Not saying I totally agree but my own perspective is they're frustrated with Ordonez and his agent, and frustrated with Konerko's inconsistencies. It appears they're quite willing to wait it out in order to get the deal they want (pitching or prospects for 2B, CF, or SS). Even waiting until the season starts. If they can get something done this month or early next month, then they jump on a FA pitcher. If they can't, I'd bet we'll see a bunch of Loaiza-type invites and signings in about 3 weeks. All speculation on my part, but I've been watching all the dynamics and listening closely, and this is the only scenario that "fits" in my mind. Well if somehow the Dodgers picked up all his salary, maybe they could get Ponson at less than what has been reported. If they deal Konerko, Dodgers pick up his salary, and then sign Ponson at 4 mill...they would be right on budget. Not that I think that either scenario happens. That's kind of my thinking too, but if Konerko is dealt to LA, then where is Maggs dealt? Is he dealt to LA along with Konerko and then we take on a bad contract(like Hundley's $7 mill), or do we trade him elsewhere? I get lost at that point. YASNY
Any deal involving Maggs and PK would be an old fashioned blockbuster. It would drastically redeine the make up of this team.
