maggsmaggs
I don't remember where, though. So, anyone hear anything?
SoxAce
Dude, there have been SOOO many rumors flouting around about konerko, maggs, valentin, lee, thomas etc... etc..... I don't know where to begin. Are you sure it wasn't LA?
bigred3535
I think that was a rumor at the beginning of the off-season before Anaheim spent loads on Escobar, Colon and Guillen. I haven't heard anything about it recently. Plus the Halos won't give up K-Rod, which I'm sure is who the Sox would have wanted.

I'd be more then happy to take on Percival who is due the same amount as Konerko if they took on Koch.
Chisoxfn
I haven't once heard Konerko's name mentioned to Anaheim, but who knows.
RibbieRubarb
Bruce Levine had mentioned on a "Talkin Baseball" segment weeks back that Konerko might be headed to the Angels straight up for Washburn.

witesoxfan
I'd do that. Anyone know what Washburn's contract is? He made just under $4 million last year.

How many weeks ago was it Ribbie? Cause in the trib., KW was actually saying he planned on talking to Konerko at spring training about the "trade rumors." whitesoxin'
Washburn for Konerko would be a great deal and it would free up cap room for Ponson. Now that would be a heck of a rotation. 1. Buehrle 2. Loaiza 3. Washburn 4. Ponson 5. Garland

Not only would that be a great rotation, but we'd probably sign Mr. Viagra to replace konerko. How bout a line-up of: 1. Harris (2B) 2. Lee (LF) 3. Magglio (RF)-Guillen said Maggs would bat 3rd 4. Thomas (DH) 5. Palmeiro (1B) 6. Valentin (SS) 7. Crede (3b) 8. Rowand/Reed (CF) if Reed is there he'll lead off and Harris would be here or 9th 9. Olivo © That could definately rival the new look Royals if not be better But for now it's speculation, just like what we were posting with Nomar at Short or Mota setting up. It's just fun to think about at this time, with nothing going on. Even though that won't happen, it sure would be sweet if it did.
DBAHO
I'd do that deal absolutely. Remember Washburn won 18 games in 2002 I think, and he'd be a great no. 3 starter without da baggage of a Odalis Perez.
bulokis
I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. KW always says he wont trade anybody if it doesnt make sense. So getting a left handed starter to fill our rotation doesnt make sense. How bout saving up some money on the trade-that doesnt make sense. Hopefully KW do this trade. We have had these same players for the last couple of years and we havent won s***. If nobody goes now, we have to change our so called HEARTS of our team next year. Fair line-up but I don't care less about Palmeiro. How about this lineup (assuming konerko is gone.. 1.Reed(LF) (for obvious reasons ) 2. Harris(2nd) table setters at the top. Can you sense a bunt and steal?! 3.Ordonez(RF) ozzie said it! and of course very consistant 4.Thomas(1st) he hit very well at when at 1st n it will keep him from whining 5.Lee(DH) Another good year from him probably 6.Rowand(CF) I think he'll have a good year 7.Valentin(SS) So we won't have 2 automatic outs at the bottom 8.Crede(3rd) He'll be even better (my favorite major league player) 9.Olivo/Alomar© Olivo 1 step closer towards figuring it out Rotation: (It will be a RLRLR Rotation.) Loaiza Buehrle Ponson Washburn Garland You could even stick lee in the # two batting order good lineup and good rotation
letsgoarow
dont mean to be negative...but there is no way the angles would give up washburn but that would be incredible if they did... tears of joy

And where do you guys think the money will come from to do all of this? We are right now, admittedly $4 million over budget. So you think we will trade PK ($8 million) and take on Washburn, who made $3.875 million and should get at least $4.5 million this year. THEN we will go spend money on Ponson who made $4.25 million and will get at least $5 million, if not $6 or $7 million this year AND Palmeiro who made $9 million and although he won't get nearly that, will still likely get $3 or $4 million. Sorry for the run-on sentence, but this idea is just that. A run of ideas that could land us roughly $8-$10 million over budget....
RibbieRubarb
Thats possibly an overbudget team JR could live with... BTW, I heard this about three weeks back, I believe.
spataro51
That would be nice if we can do them moves and that jr would accept the payroll being over his budget. ...........You know it is a damn shame that we have to speculate and dream up moves that are team should do, knowing damn well that they will not happen. All because that asshole Reinsdick will not spend money or won;t sell the team. Jr doesn't give a rats ass about us the fans or baseball in general all's he cares about his filling his pockets. So JR "YOU ARE A JAG BAG!"

Thats precisely why this deal hasn't been accepted, because its a myth. I'm sorry, it makes no sense to me whatsoever why the Angels would add payroll when they could keep the extra arms and just sign a 1st baseman to a one year deal. Sorry to be negative today, but this seems really ridiculous unless the Sox are paying a lot of Konerko's contract or the Sox are giving up a real good prospect. bigred3535
I think it makes sense. The Angels signed two major starting pitchers who conceivably could be placed ahead of Washburn in the rotation. Then Ortiz, who is about Washburn's equal in my opinion. Behind him would be Lackey, who the Angels are still high on despite his very bad 2003 campaign. So if they had Washburn they would have an absolutely tremndous rotation, possibly best in the league. However, they have a weak lineup, especially since they lost Spiezio at first. They could trade from their deepest place, the rotation, stick either Bobby Jenks or Ervin Santana (their two top pitching prospects) in the fifth spot and improve their lineup with Konerko. Plus, I believe Washburn was on the block last year anyway. I'm not saying it will happen, but I think it would make sense for both teams if it did.
