Result: Disaster. major deals before 2003 season: Sign Cliff Floyd. Result: Injury plagued '03 season. Sign Tom Glavine. Result: Sub-par season. Sign Mike Stanton. Result: Sub-par season. Major deals before 2004 season: Sign Kazuo Matsui. Sign Mike Cameron. Sign Brandon Looper. Problems with incumbents: Mike Piazza is injury prone and is playing worse each year. Al Leiter is old, and streaky. John Franco is 44. Why their is hope. Jae Wong Seo, pitched well. Jose Reyes played well before injuring his ankle. Jason Phillips hit .298. They spend all this $ on big time FAs (vaughn, alomar) made fans belive they had a hell of a team ( I thought they did two) and believed they could of went back to the world series, and it turned out to be a living nightmare. What if the Sox had a Mo Vaughn, Darren Driefort, or so many other free agents who were overpaid. Maybe the Sox management is right in trying to play for the All-Star break and making moves then. Atleast that way if we went through a horrendous streak of injuries in the beginning we would not of wasted money on that season.
