The Critic
Seems that Vlad wants to go to Florida on a one-year deal... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1704992 Don't know if this is just posturing to force the O's or Mets' hands, but the report says he has told friends that Florida is his preference. Interesting...

He wouldn't sign here anyways. He has actually said at times that he would like to play in Florida.

Spiff
He also wants to go to a city with a big dominican population, and Baltimore doesn't exactly fulfill that requirement.
DBAHO
He also wants to go to a city with a big dominican population, and Baltimore doesn't exactly fulfill that requirement. Good situation for him in Florida signin a 1 year deal. If they play well this year and get a new stadium in the offseason, he'll prob stay for longer. greasywheels121
NEW YORK -- Vladimir Guerrero rejected a three-year contract offer from the New York Mets, who were told the free-agent outfielder has decided to sign with another team. Mets general manager Jim Duquette said Saturday night he didn't know which team Guerrero has committed to. But Duquette said he was informed by Guerrero's agent, Arn Tellem, that the former Montreal Expos star would sign a multiyear deal. The Baltimore Orioles are thought to have offered Guerrero at least $65 million over five years. It was unclear which other teams were still pursuing Guerrero. "I can't comment about what the Mets have said," Orioles vice president Jim Beattie said. "When we have an announcement to make, we will make an announcement. Until that time, we remain in negotiations." One baseball executive said the Los Angeles Dodgers might be involved in talks with Guerrero. A message left for Dodgers general manager Dan Evans was not immediately returned. Baseball officials said Detroit and Florida were not in negotiations with Guerrero at this point. Concerned about the back injury that forced him to miss nearly two months last season, the Mets made Guerrero an offer Thursday that only guaranteed three years. Duquette said his understanding was that no team would be able to get insurance for Guerrero's back. But Duquette said if Guerrero stayed healthy, he would certainly have reached incentives that would automatically make the proposed deal with the Mets worth $71 million over five years. "We weren't willing to make a guaranteed five-year offer, that was based on the advice of our doctors," Duquette said. "Our offer was predicated on the health concern." Still, Duquette said he was optimistic the past few days. "Our feeling was we had a chance, we had a legitimate chance to sign the guy. It's obvious the type of player he is. It was a serious offer," he said. The Mets were cautious in part because they've been burned by injuries to players with big contracts recently, most notably first baseman Mo Vaughn. Guerrero, a four-time All-Star, is a .323 career hitter. He had at least 34 homers and 108 RBIs every year from 1998-2002. He also has one of the strongest arms in baseball. "I understand the disappointment of the fans," Duquette said. "The organization is disappointed, too. We made a legitimate run and we thought we had a chance to get him. We missed out on this guy unfortunately, but we're going to go forward with our plan." Well it says he's signing a multi-year deal...Does this rule out Florida? Maybe he's going to Baltimore....I have this STRANGE hunch it's Anaheim....

We have proven we are a small market team. We should win this division every other year if we'd just spend some loot.

DBAHO
I'm so pumped right now. Holy s*** the Angels are gonna be good If the Angels sign Vlad, are they gonna be ova the 90 million budget that the new owner has put forth down there. I think they will try to dump one of Sele, Erstad or Salmon on sum1.
DBAHO
Accordin to the LA Times, looks like the Angels got him. If that's the case man what a offseason for them. From ESPN, The Vladimir Guerrero sweepstakes appears to have concluded with yet another twist that will send the free agent outfielder west. Sources told the Los Angeles Times that the Anaheim Angels agreed to terms with Guerrero late Saturday night and will sign the former Expo star contingent on his passing a physical exam this week. The deal is for five years and $70 million, accoring to the paper. "As a matter of policy, we don't comment on speculation," Angels vice president of communications Tim Mead told The Associated Press. Earlier Saturday, the World Series champion Florida Marlins were thought to be the front-runner. They reportedly had made a one-year offer for at least $10 million, and Guerrero's first choice was believed to be Florida, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. "I've heard that he would like to go to Florida if the money was appropriate," an unnamed general manager told the Star-Ledger. "My personal opinion is that if Florida came up with a $13 million or $14 million deal, he'd go there." The Mets and the Orioles had been believed to be the only teams seriously pursuing Guerrero. But the Mets announced Saturday night that they were no longer in the running after Guerrero rejected their three-year offer. According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles reportedly offered a five-year, $67.5 million deal after originally making a five-year, $65 million proposal. But a team official told the Sun on Saturday that if Guerrero has made a decision, "we're not the team." The Orioles had been considered the early favorites because they are offering more guaranteed money than the Mets, who reportedly offered a $30 million deal over three years with plenty of incentives. But according to the Star-Ledger report, talks between Guerrero and the Orioles had fallen apart. Guerrero missed close to two months last season because of a herniated disk but was terrific after returning, finishing the season with a .330 average, 25 home runs and 79 RBI for the Expos. greasywheels121
I'm so pumped right now. Holy s*** the Angels are gonna be good Hell yeah they are....They have a very nice OF now which really helps their already decent lineup....They'll end up moving Ersty to 1B probably. They have a start to their rotation w/ Colon, Washburn, Escobar and a deep bullpen w/ the likes of Lackey, K-Rod, Percival, etc. That AL west race will be quite interesting.
