jasonxctf
Can the Sox afford to have 5 OF's? It sounds like the 4 keepers are Lee, Ordonez, Rowand and Reed. Where does that leave Borchard. Back at AAA?
Rex Hudler
Chances are that both Borchard and Reed end up in AAA.
SuperSteve
Mags, CLee, and ARow start, Willie will play a bunch of OF too. Gload prob could play some, and I believe there still is this guy by the name of Armando Rios (God forbid) who could play too.I think Borchard will be up before Reed will. If this season tanks, then we should see both.
Guest JimH
I agree Rex. I think they'll go outside to sign a backup outfielder, a left handed hitting guy. The 5th outfielder will likely be a utility guy, like Gload. It's not unwise to put Reed in AAA for at least two months, and Borchard too. If someone gets hurt or if someone like Rowand doesn't produce, you've got people to fill in.
Guest JimH
Armondo Rios is thankfully out of the organization. I'd expect a signing this month of a guy who can play all three OF spots.
letsgoarow
Rios blows, you would think that Jerry was banging him or something the first half. He was playing over Rowand in some games

Queen Prawn
In April I couldn't have blamed him. Rowand was still hurt and Rios was sort of hitting. I still remember when JM pinch hit Rios for one of the guys that was hitting well that day/week (I tried so hard to forget that, that I managed to forget half of it); I believe it was the Boston series in the beginning of September. Everyone in the outfield was furious that he did that.
maggsmaggs
Reed will be starting or in AAA. He won't ride the bench getting starts here and there, he will either be on the Sox in center starting or in AAA lighting up the box scores. SuperSteve
Reed will be starting or in AAA. He won't ride the bench getting starts here and there, he will either be on the Sox in center starting or in AAA lighting up the box scores. Only way Reed starts is if he tears up ST, ARow and Willie struggle, or Willie takes 2B and ARow struggles. I wouldn't hold your breathe, for now. greg775
Yes thank goodness Rios is gone. He and Ramirez make me sick.
YASNY
Rios was a bust, that's for sure. I hope Borchard can hit well enough in ST to make the club, and keep some pressure on Rowand as well as being a solid backup for Maggs and Lee. That's if Borchard and Maggs are still with us in ST. The_Godfather
With our lack of a true leadoff hitter I wouldn't be shocked if Reed got a chance. For that to happen thou the sox would have to have an open slot for him , and the only way that happens is if they trade C-Lee or Mags. baggio202
i fully expect borchard to beat out rowand for the starting CF job this spring...if borchard is not ready by now to beat out rowand , who will be a career 4th outfielder at best for the rest of his career then we might as well dump him on somebody for a used "L" screen because he'll never make it...its time for joe to put up some bigtime numbers... elrockinMT
I don't know if Borchard beats out Rowand, but my guess is Borchard stays with the club for major league experience and plays all three OF positions and DH once in a blue moon. Reed goes to AAA and is ready in '05. If we don't sign Maggs either Borchard or Reed will be up to step in his place. But, heh, it's still winter and who knows what will happen or who will be here, or not, come April 5th

I also don't see Rowand as a career fourth outfielder. I see him as a solid, if unspectacular, starter.
