Gene Honda Civic
One thing that pissed me off is at the end of the game. The game was played at Santa Clara. The Gonzaga fans who were at the game, charged the court. People got on SIU when they charged after the Hawaii game, but Gonzaga fans charged on the oppenents home court, and who was one game over .500. Not to mention Gonzaga is ranked fourth in the nation. YOU f***ING IDIOTS!!!!! I was on the Gonzaga bandwagon -- picked them for the Final Four before the season started -- but, I really lost alot of belief in them today. You're in college steve. chargin the court is so much fun. All the cool kids are doin' it. Heck, the Iowa fans tore down the goalposts at the Humpdome. And even tried to leave with it. They tried to take them out the door. That was a great atmosphere tonight. That's what college sports are about. Not the NC-Duke rivalry. It's these little schools where the fans are passionate that make the sport what it is. ------------------ If you just got on the Gonzaga bandwagon just this year you've severly missed it. I picked it up during Santangelo's Jr. year, back when Monson was thier coach. They didn't play all that well tonight, but if they lost they could have theoretically knocked MSU out of the tourney because that's one less at-large berth. So you should be happy for the victory. ----------------- Also anyone who saw the Arizona-Gonzaga game from last years tourney, knows what this team is capable of. They have been severly underrated for years, and now that they are getting some respect, they are being questioned for thier high ranking. I guess that's when you know you've arrived, people have to resort to calling you overrated. It's always been reported that Gonzaga's strength is it's guard play. But if you watch them they haven't been "small" - St. Joe's type team - since 98-99... They've had Cavalry-Voilette-Turiaf. If those guys couldn't bang the boards and score offensively they would have never gotten anywhere in the tourney. They have had a string of good court managers though -Santangelo-Fraum-Dickau-Stepp. They're just a complete team. If they played in the big ten sure they would have had a few losses -- Going on the road is tough -- but they would have challenged for the Big Ten/Pac 10 title. SuperSteve
Oh, I am very happy they won. Exactly for the Big Ten bubble teams. I never said I just got on the bandwagon, I, as most people, tend to cheer for the underdogs. Although, a few years ago I picked Wyoming to upset them in the tourny, and they did -- that was just to rub it into everyone who said they could get to the Final Four. Good luck charging the court, or field, here at State. This is the last place that is going to ever get charged. You can't charge Spartan Stadium, if people did, there would honestly be some casualties (there is a ten foot drop to get on the field unless everyone files through small stairways). Oh yeah, we are also the school who likes to riot.

Elcaballo45
I agree, that game tonight was great. The little schools are much more entertaining without all the hype, although i wouldnt consider Gonzaga an unknown team anymore. Hell of a game, Im not sure if I wanted to see another team from that conference go, but since there are really no bubble teams in the big 10, I should have rooted for Santa Clara. WSoxShuf
What the f*** are you talking about. Illinois is ranked 15 or something, Zags are 4. They are not going to drop that many sports in one loss.

Illinois will probably be around 13th i would think, but really, rankings dont mean crap anyway. Im more worried about playing the Hoosiers on Friday at 11. (Im almost positve we will have another classic big 10 tourney game with Indiana, im banking that the Hoosiers beat OSU). I could have got tickets to that session, but i got class from 9-11 on friday, so i guess I will be cheering and screaming at the ol television. Goooo Illini! WSoxShuf
In terms of NCAA rankings, I do not believe that would have dropped Gonzaga at all. Zags would have been a 2 seed regardless. Illinois is a 4/5 seed, unless they win the Big 10 tourney.

Gonzaga may not be a 2 seed now. In my eyes there is no way they should be a top 2 seed. Their best wins are Maryland and Missouri, both bubble teams. In my eyes they are no better than a 5 seed. Of course I realize they will get better than that.

I don't believe that winning the tourney will do any more than doing well in the tourney. If we can win 2 or more games, I say it helps us. Elcaballo45
How about this scenario, get to the championship game, lock up either a 2/3 seed, and since the result of the game doesnt matter, play a team like Purdue or Northwestern in the finals, and give them the game, so that way the B10 gets 4 teams! YAY! Or wait, then im not sure I'd be too happy going into the tourney with a loss to either of those 2. s***, oh well.

We could see it that way, but I guarantee that those kids will not want that to happen. No way any team would ever hold anything back this late in the season. Chisoxfn
That Gonzaga game was awesome. I watched the 2nd half of it and the Zags are a pretty good team. I don't quite think they are a 1 seed, but definately a two seed. And damn, Doublem has to be happy...that was an amazing win by Bradley. I know that they wouldnt give up a chance for a championship, Im just hoping it all works out that a 4th team can go. That would be awesome if Northwestern could somehow get 4 wins. They've got the kind of team that could do it, with great frustrating defense and a fairly good offense.

Honestly, I am obviously going to be cheering for State. But, N'Western is going to be the second team I cheer for, aswell as Purdue and Iowa. Wisky and Illinois are already in, so I hope they lose first round. I can't wait till we are cheering for each other in a few weeks.

Unless we win the BTT (who am I kidding?), this will be the first time in my existence that IU hasn't made the tourney. If they don't win at the least 2 games in the BTT, this will be the first time since the 1974-1975 season that IU hasn't made any kind of playoffs.
