aboz56
I think I'll probably ask a question, but I've gotta tune up my list first. Among the possibilities: - Who will be the closer next season as of right now: Koch or Marte? - What are your thoughts on Jeremy Reed and his chance to contribute to the team next season? - Not to look too far ahead, but what needs will the team look to address in the 2004 amateur draft? - Do you think all of the trade rumors that had Mags sent to Boston will affect his willingness to stay with the Sox after next season? And also, do you plan to make a competitive offer to retain Mags?
Rex Hudler
Allow me to play the role of Kenny Williams: - Who will be the closer next season as of right now: Koch or Marte? We hope that Koch can regain his effectiveness this year and give us an option of having a RH or a LH closing games. At this point there is no need to name one or the other. Ozzie will evaluate all of our positions in Spring Training and make whatever decision is best for the club. But having two guys, throwing from opposite sides, would give out bullpen a tremendous lift and give us the flexibility a lot of teams don't have. - What are your thoughts on Jeremy Reed and his chance to contribute to the team next season? We are very excited about Jeremy and what he can bring to this club. We'll invite him to Spring Training and get him into the mix. Whether he is ready for the Majors this year or not remains to be seen, but regardless we are excited about his future. - Not to look too far ahead, but what needs will the team look to address in the 2004 amateur draft? It is very difficult to draft for specific needs. We have at times in the past drafted heavily on pitching to help replinish our system. What we will do this year is look at our system and see if there are any areas that we need to address, but the main focus of our draft will be getting the best available players, regardless of position. We want to find the players that best fit our system, that have the best mix of talent and potential to make it to Chicago. - Do you think all of the trade rumors that had Mags sent to Boston will affect his willingness to stay with the Sox after next season? And also, do you plan to make a competitive offer to retain Mags? Magglio is a professional who understands the business of the game and won't let rumors affect him. I have always stated that I would only entertain offers that I felt would make the White Sox a better team and am not out there trying to sell players off. We want Maggio to be back with the Sox next season and for many years, but that will ultimately be determined later. We hope to be able to present him with a fair offer that will make him want to stay here in Chicago. Whether we can get things worked out or not, I have no doubt that Magglio will show up to the park every day, work as hard as he can and do what he can to make us a better club. Guest JimH
Rex, you should either be a GM, in public relations, or ... you and I have heard and read similar responses from countless baseball executives a thousand times and have them committed to memory. As for asking KW to resign because he's taken the club down the toilet ... ok, I guess there's a right of free speech to do that. If it makes a person feel better, go ahead. Try putting yourself in his shoes though, how would you like it if somebody gathered a large group of people around your workplace and someone stood up and demanded you step down, even though some of the mistakes made may have been another guy's fault? Just seems a little tacky to me, especially in a public forum. If I had the same deep seeded beef with KW, I'd send a certified letter and ask for a response. But that's just me. aboz56
Although it would be somewhat humorous if you did indeed ask KW to resign, chances are that he wouldn't answer to you and they would simply just skip to the next question and the few KW supporters in the place would start asking questions to save their hero. Whatever you decide to do, I'll be there taking notes and will have a full report available the next day or that same night to all of the Soxtalk posters. Also gonna try to get pictures from the event up on Soxtalk ASAP as I'll have my laptop and camera with me on the trip and apparently the Hyatt has free high speed internet access in all of the rooms. Ask the question with some facts and specific instances to make your point. There is nothing worse than hearing someone voice an opinion which is perceived as baseless or just an angry opinion. There is nothing worse than hearing someone voice an opinion which is perceived as baseless or just an angry opinion. ive been writing out what i want to say one of my main points is i believe he hasnt taken this team in any one direction..my example of that is when he traded baldwin he said james was "just a bridge" until the young arms in our number 1 rated farm system arrived and that time had come...then in the next off season only 2 months in baseball time (aug-sept) he comes to the conclussion that we have to trade for todd ritchie trading away alot of that young talent (kip wells - josh fogg) because the young pitching wasnt ready and we needed veteran leadership... right now im trying to whittle down to what i think are the important points to hit on before i ask for his resignation...the big problem is if hit on everything i disagree with they'd cut me off... but your point is well taken..i plan to do it in a respectful way..not ranting and raving but with specific points to back up why i feel he just doesnt have the skills we need under the current ownerships self imposed salary cap
BurlyMan56
I'm thinking about asking a question about Tony Graffanino...If this was one of Jerry's favorites, How can you let this guy go to the Royals; for I believe less money...This guy was as consisent as they come, versatile guy off your bench...Still is bothersome to me... Harry Chappas
I got the feeling the KW Q&A will not take place this year and will be replaced with a Talking Basball type of thing with Rooney, Bruce Levine, Ken Harrleson, Darren Jackson type of thing. Soxfest will be an absolute joke. I work across the street and don't think I will be going. I have no hope whatsoever for the upcoming season. Watching Scott Schoenweis and Danny Wright in our rotation disgusts me. No worse than having to put up with Ozzie Guillen though. I think this franchise is about to hit an alltime low. On second thought maybe I will ask William Ligue and the dude from Bolingbrook to attend the Q&A with me.
spataro51
When is this question and answer session? I have been thinking about attending soxfest but at this point I WILL NOT FORK OVER ANOTHER DIME FOR THAT f***ING ASSHOLE REINSDORF!! I really don't want to give him the pleasure of getting my dollar for this event. The only way i am going to soxfest is if my friend comes through with some comp passess other wise you can forget it! If i go i want to make sure i am there for this question session becuase i have a question i want to ask, so how does this work. I won't say what my question is because i don't want to spoil the surprise for everyone that is going to be there, don't worry you will know when my question is asked.
