Sox should sign Urbina

I would love to see the Sox raise payroll $3.5 million and sign Urbina, I think altough the Sox have an average line-up and starting staff, this signing would give them a great pen. This would prevent him from going to the Twins and we would have a top major league bullpen. (A superb one is Koch gets straight)

CL-Koch

SU-Urbina

SU-Marte

LS-Wunsch

RS-Politte

LR-Santiago

LR-Wright

This would be a great pen.

For starters, we are reportedly $4 million over right now, and I pretty sure that number is right on the button.

Second, explain something to me. If we got Urbina(which, BTW, we will not), why would he be setting up Koch? I think he'd be closing. And if we got Urbina, we would get rid of something for nothing....probably Koch.

Our bullpen is, for the most part, set. Koch, Marte, Wunsch, Politte, and two others from within(including our signings) will be the bullpen, like it or not.

Sox budget should be $70 million, not $58 million. Reinsdorf could easily afford ot to pay $3.5 million more his season and still have a $65 million close to what we were at last year. Explain to me how attendence raises from 2002 to 2003, but the resulting payroll for 2003 lowers to 2004. Doesn't make sense, except that Reinsdorf is trying to pocket the extra earnings. CHEAP ASS!!!

Bullpen is the key to success, in 2000, granted we had a good offense, but a below average starting nothing like this year (yep). It was a strong bullpen that shut the door in 2000 and led us to the playoffs, I would rather have depth in the pen than anything else, than depth on the bench.

We were not at $65 million in payroll last year. We didn't pay anymore than the minimum for Everett and Alomar. Our payouts last year were $51 million. That has been pretty well documented. This years payroll will be $58 million which is a 15% increase over last year.
