A 31-year-old Chicago man who works as a Bulls mascot was in police custody today after officers said they saw him selling marijuana from his car on a Near North Side street.

Chester Brewer, of the 900 block of North Cleveland Avenue, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Monday on the 500 block of West Locust Street, police said. Officers found six ounces of marijuana on Brewer and a scale in his trunk, police said.

Brewer was charged with delivery of marijuana. He was scheduled for a bond hearing this afternoon.

Police said Brewer told them he worked as a mascot for the Bulls. Team spokesman Tim Hallam confirms that Brewer was "Da Bull." A former Jesse White tumbler, Brewer has held the part-time job since 1996, Hallam said.

The Bulls' Web site identifies Da Bull as the muscular, slam-dunking cousin of the team's other mascot, Benny the Bull.

Da Bull also entertains fans with tumbling, gymnastics, break dancing and "officiating," according to the Web profile. His jersey number is 95, representing the 1995-96 season when he started with the Bulls. The team also hires him out for school functions, charity gatherings, private parties and corporate events.
