BrandoFan
I said once before, douchebag, that I don't study Torah! For you to say that I'm not a Jew is an insult. I was born a Jew, Bar Mitzvahed, and will die a Jew! You were born an anti-Semite, live as one, and will die as a pathetic, hate filled asshole! You are dead to me, you piece of s***! I will not respond to ANY of your postings, because you are obviously an uneducated, inbred, white trailer trash, racist. Keep hiding under your white sheets! :fyou yours truly

BrandoFan
What are you doing with all the free time now that you aren't around here too often? Oh I was never here as part any "free time". I wish. But lately (ok, since June with a christmas break interruption) even the usual multi-tasking of which Soxtalk is a proud part, has become almost impossible-- too much research, then all that workshop s*** and....well, hopefully you'll see it for yourself pretty soon. Yesternight's thread, tho, further reminded me what I am missing.

southsider2k5
A person is considered a Jew if the mother is Jewish. Being Jewish has nothing to do with keeping to the faith and/or religious practices of Judaism. Hey guess what, I learned something out of all this. In all seriousness, by this definition I am Jewish Fancy that. does this mean I get to be rich now?

southsider2k5
I didn't know any better, I'd say you sound a bit dejected at this I am sure stunning revelation. Not dejected, just ambiviliant. Just like I said a couple of days ago, being a practicing Christian, means I don't consider myself a Jew, because I don't practice the faith, which is essential. It is like calling yourself a Christian because your grandmother was one ages ago. It doesn't make any difference to me in my life.

Being Jewish has NOTHING to do with RELIGION anymore than being Black-- with Christianity or Islam. So Jewish religion considers you a Jew because of your mother, so what? You don't subscribe to Judaism....and Christianity (and many secular nations btw) considers you a CHRISTIAN because they care about FATHER and not mother. And also because you are I presume a BELIEVER. At the very least, now you know you share sometihng with Christ other than his teachings. No big deal if you ask me. I am not discounting what the people of the book believe. Not at all. I have a ton of respect for each of the 3 middle eastern religions. But for my life, it is what I practice. The bible saids people will know you are a follower of Christ by your actions. Not by your mother or father, and that is the belief I subscribe to. To me Jews are people who practice Judaism, Israelis are people who live in Israel, and Zionists are people who are neither of the previous two, who believe Israel should exsist above all other considerations. BrandoFan
To me Jews are people who practice Judaism What about millions upon millions of Jews who don't practice Judaism? I have a ton of secular Jewish friends, some of them immigrants. I consider them to be of Jewish RACE or ETHNICITY, or at least to have parts of that race/ethnicity in them because many of them are "mixed" with all sorts of lineages. Maybe I just dont understand sometihng. I've always thougt you are a Christian if you believe in the Bible/Christ/Church. You can be of Jewish persuasion but a Christian because of your beliefs. Where is Soxy and CW when you need them?

I have German, Sweedish, English, and Jewish blood from my grandparents, and I consider myself American, because that is who I am. I can see your view point though for ethnicities more than religion though. As far as Jews, if they practive the faith, then they are Jewish, IMO. Maybe I don't have the politically correct or the prevailing opinion, but that is how I see things. Like I said that has a biblical basis for Christians, and that is why I believe it. cwsox
I would be very interested to hear your grand parents story. How did they know to get out, what difficulties did they go through, etc. And I would suspect then that you through them had family lost in the Holocaust. To my way of thinking, you are ethnically Jewish (or half Jewish) and being ethnically Jewish does not equal practicing Judaism. You are also a Christian. I think it is cool! And you also an American. All cool!

I agree--there is a group called Jews for Jesus. They're a bunch of Jews (by race) who are Christian by their acceptence of Jesus as Messiah. But they consider themselves Jews because of their racial heritage. So, I do think that you can be Jewish by ethnicity. It's interesting, though, that I've never really thought about people being Christian by ethnicity. Or Buddhist. Or atheist or really anything else. But I guess that sort of is probably because of God's setting the Jews apart from from the rest the world (or at least that's how it's perceived in the old testament). So, I suppose taht's probably why it's like that.
