aboz56
BY CHRIS DE LUCA Staff Reporter In a shakeup WMVP-AM (1000) has been plotting for years, a second local sports-radio talk show -- hosted by Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist Jay Mariotti -- will be added to the Chicago ESPN Radio weekday lineup Monday. WMVP has been looking to add a second local show in its battle against WSCR-AM (670). The show hosted by Mariotti will knock Tony Kornheiser's national show off the air in Chicago, while WMVP will retain Jim Rome's national show. Mariotti said an agreement has been reached in principle, though a contract has not been signed. Mariotti is scheduled to meet with station management today. Mariotti -- already a regular on ''Around the Horn,'' a daily sports talk show on ESPN television -- is expected to be joined on the show by a co-host or co-hosts, a detail that is still being discussed. The show will air from 9-11 a.m weekdays. The Mariotti show will join the ''Mac, Jurko & Harry Show'' already running on WMVP and hosted by Dan McNeil, John Jurkovic and Harry Teinowitz. Since ESPN bought WMVP four years ago, it has been searching for a second local show. The latest venture will be a direct shot by WMVP in its battle with WSCR. In the Arbitron Fall 2003 ratings book released this month, WSCR-AM still is tops in the market, but WMVP-AM is gaining ground. Among men 25-54 -- the demographic advertisers covet most -- WMVP had a 3.2 audience share in afternoon drive (3-7 p.m.) compared to a 2.8 for "The Score.'' A year ago, in the fall 2002 book, WSCR had a 2.9-to-2.1 edge. It's the first win ever for WMVP in that category.

Cerbaho-WG
They're knocking off Kornheiser for f***ing Mariotti? Well, at least they have Dibbs and Dan Patrick.

danman31
His show with Kellerman on the weekends wasn't bad. I don't think that was permanent or whatever, but either way Kornheiser's show is awesome. I rarely listen to it so it doesn't bother me, but it's hilarious. Flash Tizzle
I like the idea of Moronitti hosting his own show. This way when he writes an idiotic column or jumps bandwagons I can call in and b****.
Elcaballo45
This sucks, i like listening to Kornheieser, dammit, and i sure as hell dont want to listen to mariotti boost the cubs fans moral. Like they havnt drunk eneugh cubs koolaid to begin with, since everyone is saying that with the additions of hawkins and possibly maddux, that supposoly they'll easily go all the way now.... dammit stupid cubs..... The Critic
I was never crazy about Kornheiser, but he's light years better than the Heart Attack Twins, Mariotti and Rome. I guess if you want to compete against Boers and North, you have to get as stupid as them. I listen to Mike and Mike on my way to work, I try to catch Silvie and Carmen when I can, and of course I listen to White Sox broadcasts, but that's about it. Sports talk radio is really a wasteland. Elcaballo45
I like TC but dan and dibbs sucks REAL BAD. Really, i dont think i've ever heard someone say that Dan Patricks show is stupid. Him and Dibble make fun of everyone, and they usually have on some very good guests.
JDsDirtySox
I will say that I am glad Mariotti is on 1000 now. I couldn't stand Kornheiser talking about Washington Sports all of the time... and if he wasn't talking about that, he was talking about movie reviews. I am excited to listen to Mariotti on the radio. I don't care to hear interviews with Random Panthers and Patriots at the Super Bowl, and I don't care to hear an interview with the Richmond Basketball coach after upseting Kansas. I just want Chicago Sports Radio. I enjoy Mariotti's columns, and I think having him on the air will pour fuel on to the fire of Chicago sports. Just my two cents. Yeah, but i have 5 cents, so my comments will count for more! Anyway, if you want to listen to chicago sports radio, you can listen to the Score. I liked interviews across the nation, where there would be interviews to what is hot at the moment. Like i want to hear more about how the bears, bulls, and blackhawks suck all winter long! Give me interviews of the coach that upset Kansas, that is more exciting than hearing Skiles talk about how we almost won, BUT...... well anyway, i figure one chicago sports station is eneugh during the day.
