Ozzietheairedale
First of all, getting 86 wins and finishing just 4 games short of the divison championship is not "mediocre." That's pretty good and it was a lot of fun as well. Second, nobody's ever told Sox fans to "blindly support your team" whatever that phrase is supposed to mean. Third, outside of the since departed D'Angelo Jimenez, there was not much in the line of "horrible baserunning, lousy execution and inconsistent defense." In fact, the Sox had the 5th best team defense in the AL in 2003. Fourth, all KW has said is that the Sox are going into the 2004 season a bit over budget in the expectation that there will be sufficient fan support for the team to not only gain the revenues needed to get out of the red, but to pick up more players later on in the season. Since when is that dumping all over the fans? Finally, Rozner also included this: "The Sox lost Roberto Alomar, Bartolo Colon, Carl Everett, Tom Gordon, Tony Graffanino and Sullivan - and added a 35-year-old sidearmer in Shingo Takatsu, who throws 85 mph Frisbees and can't strike anyone out." From what I've read about Tatatsu. he's been a pretty effective reliever, strikes batters out and since when is a 85 mph pitch necessarily bad? You don't necessarily need blazing speed to get strikeouts. But Rozner doesn't care about getting his facts straight as long as he can get attention by dumping on Takatsu. Rozner either is auditioning for a spot in the Cubs Tribune or he's just being a jerk. Is KW in disguise writing this post? "First of all" getting 86 wins, which incidentally is only 5 games over .500 in the worst division in baseball when you were predicted to win it, is mediocre. Other than 2-3 weeks last year, it was not "fun" to watch. Second, blindly supporting your team means filling up the seats at the Cell regardless of the product produced. That's exactly what KW is asking. Third, bad baserunning - have you watched Magglio Ordonez lately? I know the team defense improved last year, but prior to that it was pitiful. Execution - try watching somebody lay down a bunt, move runners over or close a game early last season. Fourth - see the second point above. It's exactly the same thing. Fifth - 85 mph is a good high school fastball.
Guest JimH
I care about media coverage. Positive media coverage brings out the casual fan. Sometimes even less-than-positive media coverage generates a buzz which brings in the casual fan. More fans = more revenue. In our ownership world, more revenue = more and better players. I trust the commute was better today, looks like they cleaned the roads pretty well. Actually ... no ... I just have this bad habit of speaking my mind! I need to work on my delivery sometimes though

I just have this bad habit of speaking my mind! I need to work on my delivery sometimes though GM to you, too. Much better today, although I left at 6 just to be sure.. I agree that positive media is good.. but I'm not going to cry over missing out on some coverage because of the SB. I care about the coverage during the season.. when, IMO, it counts. Harry Chappas
You would post s*** just to disagree with me... I actually have to agree. All of my information on the Sox comes from this website. 90% of the casual fans think the trades last year was Reinsdorf "going for it." On this site it was brought out that those trades cost us good prospects and JR padi no salary in exchange lost just about a minor league team to "go for it." Casual fans only cared that they were not Joe Borchard or Kris Honel so who cares and JR did nothing to hurt us in the future. Media coverage can go into the fact that this team could be better by trading Maggs not as a salary dump but a way to get Borchard/Reed playing time using Aaron and restocking with some top flight pitching prospects. These are the things that more than anything will draw fans to the park other than wins and losses. The media does more than anything to promote or kill a team. They are responsible for the negative approach to the upperdeck. Instead of comparing it to Cleveland, New York, Seattle, Texas, or pointing out that you can see everything without sitting behind a post they write it can not be sat in. Also the new centerfield arrangement did nothing but cut down on the sightlines of 50 or so fans. The media coverage and resulting appearence to the public hurts salary as much as anything. Instead of being a Pep Rally it is a detriment.
quickman
Am I the only one who doesn't care about the media coverage? Will more media coverage help us get another starter? Fill in our problem at 2B? Resolved the Maggs issue? No but the more good press you ahve the more people may come to the games
Steff
No but the more good press you ahve the more people may come to the games Yea.. and there's so much good things to print about the Sox right now...? Trust me.. if something happens, it'll make the news. Getting all bent out of shape cause of when SF is is crazy. It's been on SB Sunday before.. There will be plenty of press there to see all the fans ripping KW and JR a new rear.. trust me.
