Cleveland Indians and Gay Porn

This info has been out since this guy was signed by the Indians...  I wonder why someone chose now to release this story?

And honestly does it matter?  Does it affect this guys pitching?

That's what I'm thinking... for anyone to see ANY relevance to this is plain and simple stupid. Sorry guys... but I don't see how what someone does in their personal life has anything to do with what they do between the lines..

Here we go again...

I heard this on 97.9 this morning. I thought it was strange, but I understand why the Indians wanted to get this story out now so it doesn't interfere with the kid's progress further down the line.

It would have come up sooner or later that he was banned (blackballed, whatever you want to call it) from playing ball in Japan.

In a totally unrelated story, I finally got my countertop and now my kitchen rocks.

Back to your regularly scheduled scandal thread (Scandal...awesome song and video by Queen)...

I guess it just amazes me the homophobia that exsists in some areas. Why are professional athletes so above society that they don't have to accept homosexual behavior? And really in the game of baseball what difference does it make? Its not like your reliever is going to run out of the pen during the 7th inning stetch pull the SS's pants down and start pounding him in the ass. This whole thing just bothers me. How is this type of behavior any different than anti-semitism, or anti-black, or anti-anything else that people have had their careers ruined over. Leave the kid alone.

If the amount of guys who have been in any sort of homosexual situation ever came out.. the sports world would be shocked.

Why would a heterosexual man agree to make a gay porn tape? I am still confused about that one.

$$$ I'm certain he got paid more for a gay video than a straight. I guess it is kind of the virgin thing.

Why would it come out now? I'll bet to try and have it settle before Spring Training. If the story doesn't have ang legs in a month or so, it will not cause a distraction to the team.

I wonder if Zero has a copy . . . ;)

You know, I have no clue why this is such a big deal. Either the gay porn or if a guy was gay and playing in a major league sport. I saw this thread last night on Pale Hose. I mean, let's be honest--what are the odds that EVERY SINGLE PLAYER in MLB right now is straight. Pretty damn slim. I bet the ones that are bi or gay are in the closet because they fear the reprisals and the homophobia from their teammates and the public. I can't imagine living my life in fear of that--and knowing that my whole life is, essentially a lie. Pardon my language, but that's a s*** way to have to live.

And so what if you are hit on my someone of your own gender? It doesn't make YOU any less straight--it just means people (gay and straight) find you HOT. Why can't you just treat it like if someone you wouldn't want of the opposite gender hitting on you? The few times I've been approached by lesbians I've always tried to be very kind and just say no thanks. It's not like they're going to beat me up for try to force me to do anything--I mean homosexuals are decent people too.

I'm realy mystified by this fear, distrust and hatred of homosexuals, especially in more "macho" men. If anyone has insight I'd be thrilled to hear it.

enjoy!!

CLEVELAND -- Indians minor league pitcher Kazuhito Tadano is asking for forgiveness for what he called a one-time mistake -- his appearance in a gay porn video in which he engaged in a homosexual act.

Tadano took part in the video three years ago when he was a college student. Sitting in Cleveland's clubhouse Tuesday, he said he hoped to put his actions in the past.

"All of us have made mistakes in our lives," Tadano said, reading a statement in English. "Hopefully, you learn from them and move on."

Shunned by Japanese baseball teams, the 23-year-old Tadano signed with the Indians last March. They think he can make their club this spring.

Tadano gave few details about the video, which he made after his sophomore year at Rikkyo University.

"I did participate in a video and I regret it very much," he said. "It was a one-time incident that showed bad judgment and will never be repeated. I was young, playing baseball, and going to college and my teammates and I needed money.

"Frankly, if I were more mature and had really thought about the implications of what I did, it never would have happened."

Through an interpreter, Tadano added: "I'm not gay. I'd like to clear that fact up right now."

The Indians set up the media session after getting many requests from reporters to speak with Tadano. The team wanted to address the issue before spring training starts next month.

Tadano's admission will certainly draw attention to homosexuality in baseball, a sensitive issue that most players prefer to not even discuss.

There are no openly gay players in the big leagues today. The same is true in the NFL, NHL and NBA.

Tadano was one of Japan's top college pitchers and expected to be a high first-round pick in 2002. But after a Japanese tabloid published photos of him in the video a month before the draft, pro teams in Japan did not select him.

"The commissioner of Japanese baseball came out and said, 'You will not draft Tadano,' " asserted the pitcher's agent, Alan Nero. "But this kid didn't assault anybody. He didn't commit murder. If anything, he is guilty of being naive."

Twice in the minor leagues last season, Tadano stood before his teammates and confessed to his participation in the video, which Nero said can only be obtained on the black market in Japan.

Tadano received overwhelming support from players at Kinston, N.C., where he started the season, and later at Akron, the Indians' Double-A affiliate.

"I wanted to tell the truth to my teammates," he said.

A former starter, he pitched in all three levels of the minors last season, going 6-2 with a 1.55 ERA and three saves. At Akron, he didn't allow a run in his first 28 innings and struck out 78 in 72 2/3 innings.

Outfielder Grady Sizemore said Tadano's speech last year was well-received in the clubhouse.

"You could tell he was nervous," said Sizemore, a top prospect who lived with Tadano this winter. "But I don't think it changed anybody's opinion of him. After it was said and done, nobody thought anything more of it. He's a great guy and a great pitcher."

If he pitches well during spring training, Tadano could win a spot in Cleveland's bullpen. Whenever he joins the Indians, pitcher C.C. Sabathia says Tadano will be welcomed.

"This is the right team and the right organization for him," Sabathia said. "We have good guys here. Everybody has done something that they regret in their lives. He's a person just like everyone else."

Tadano tried out for several major league teams last spring in Arizona. Coming off an elbow injury, he didn't get any offers. Nero said some teams were turned off by what he called "the scandal."

"He didn't pitch well enough for them to ignore it," Nero said. "I also think they were afraid of the baggage that would come with it."

Not the Indians. They liked Tadano enough to invite him to work out at their spring training facility in Winter Haven, Fla. Eventually, they signed him to a minor league contract that included a $67,500 bonus.

General manager Mark Shapiro said the team decided to sign Tadano despite knowing there could be backlash.

"We thought the upside was well worth the risk, energy and time to support him," Shapiro said.

Tadano knows he may face fan abuse in major league parks such as Yankee Stadium, where heckling the visitors is part of the pageantry.

He joked that he's ready for it.

"I don't understand English, so it doesn't really matter," he said.

Hey Tex, or any of the other daily poll mavens...

I assumed by now you would have started working on the hypothetical "How much $$ would it take for you to switch hit?" poll. I may need one more zero on the offer than some, and SSIrish may need one more zero than me, but everybody (EVERYBODY) has their price. Maybe Jason would need to be offered ownership of the White Sox, while others would settle for dinner and a movie – watching, not starring in it, of course...

Who's willing to take a poll on who's willing to, er..., take a pole...?

The guy isn't a part of the Sox organization...

So tell me again, why do we care?

Another good point..? Who the hell cares and what's the point of posting about it... just like the Mo thread.. right?

God.. friggin thick around here lately.

It is about a baseball player. It is about baseball life. I think that you should answer the question. Unless of course you are afraid to.

You think having a baseball player in a gay porno is bad... no ones even going to see it...

-------

well look at this,

One of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time is Bugs Bunny

I don't think a baseball player would want to have it on their resume. For that alone I think it is bad. Bugs is a cartoon. Not real and not a baseball player.

Well, geez, who the hell puts porn on their normal resume? Do you think the College Girls Gone Wild put that on there when they're looking for a job?

It's on his resume now, I don't care if he states it or not. The whole baseball world knows about it. Just like O'Leary lied about stuff he put on his resume. Now he can add liar to that because everyone in the football world knows he lied. Not quite the same, but you get the point.

Tadano didn't put it on his resume. He did, however, have to explain why he had been essentially banished from Japanese Baseball. So I guess you think it's good now?

No, I think those are 2 different things. Lying and saying you had experience about playing and education and stuff is different from not saying you did gay porn. One will cost a team wins and one means NOTHING in terms of the sport. Apples and oranges. I don't understand how this has anything to do with the team. Porn and baseball are completely unrelated--this won't affect the Indians performance--unless he tore his shoulder doing somehting utterly kinky. Saying that this is equal to what O'Leary did is completely absurd.
