Steff, Most firewalls/virus scans close ports to types of internet communication when just installed. If I am correct, I believe you have to allow access to AIM (or whatever messenger you're using). I have no idea what option that can be found under, but from an experiance of my own I remember getting kicked out of everything until I allowed the programs access to the internet.

It was updating definitions and during the process was blocking me from any communication. It finished and I re-booted and everything is back to normal now :headbang
