southsideirish
The Dodgers signed Lima? What are they doing with all this starting pitching? Nomo? Ishii? Dreifort? Weaver? Perez? Alvarez? Edwin Jackson? I know Dreifort is hurt but I believe he is coming back by spring training. Did anyone else hear of this signing? What are they doing over there? This may have been discussed before, but I haven't seen it yet.

Soxbadger
1) They are trying to get a monopoly on pitchers who used to be good. 2) They just assume that 2 or 3 of their starters will undoubtedly get hurt. 3) They are run by Evans. Id say their rotation will be: 1) Nomo 2) Ishii 3) Weaver 4) Perez 5) Alvarez/Lima/Jackson. The dodgers just have to many pitchers, I mean they still have Gange, Mota, and Shuey in the pen. Right there is already 10 pitchers and thats not including Driefort, Tom Martin, and Andy Ashby. I guess they just really like to sign mediocre players that they dont really need. SkokieSox
They signed him because he is low risk with the potential of having another season like last year. It's smart in case someone goes down, but they're also going to trade a pitcher or two before the season starts. Whether its for a premier guy or just to fill in some major holes with some minor talent they'll still have to do it with pitching most likely. LostInBoston
Speaking of the Dodgers - they've penciled in Jackson as their 5th starter. So, its doubtful Lima will start... Yahoo link to story
baggio202
cant have enough starting pitching..if anyone should know that it should be sox fans
southsideirish
LostinBoston already mentioned that Edwin Jackson has been penciled in as the 5th starter. I have read the exact same thing. It was a quote from thier manager. It is his job to lose based on how well he did at the end of last season. It seems like they have too many starters and not enough relievers. It just seems like a wierd signing.
Soxbadger
Actually the Dodgers still have one of the best bullpens eventhough they lost Quantril. SB

southsideirish
Actually the Dodgers still have one of the best bullpens eventhough they lost Quantril. SB Really? Who is out of that bullpen besides Mota, Shuey, and Gagne? I really don't pay much attention to the Dodgers to tell you the truth.
Soxbadger
Well I would say that those four alone make up a good bull pen, most consist of 6-7, and they have 2 leftys with impressive stats (Coyler and Martin), and Driefort, Ashby etc would be their 7th if they went with a 12 man pitching staff. I mean Gagne was the cy young, Mota is considered one of the top set up men, and Shuey has always been reliable. The rest of the pieces just fall into place with those 3.
