The Detroit Tigers re-signed relief pitcher Julio Santana to a one-year contract Friday.

Santana was 3-5 with a 2.84 ERA in 38 games last season. His season ended on Aug. 11 when he was placed on the disabled list with a partially torn ligament in his right elbow.

To make space on the 40-man roster, the Tigers outrighted outfielder Craig Monroe to Triple-A Toledo.

Monroe was 3-for-25 with a double and a home run with the Tigers last year. In 99 games with Toledo, he hit .321 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs.
