Buehrle? What?

I think it means that he likes to clear his head. In other words, if your whole mental makeup was baseball baseball baseball for 12 months, you might become bored and disinterested and suffer from potential burnout. You could suffer from baseball overload.

I think he likes to clear his head in the offseason and think about other things besides baseball. Just my thoughts.

If he comes to Spring Training fresh, rejuvinated, and full of energy and enthusiasm, then I'm all for whatever he does in the offseason. :headbang

Really! Can you imagine having to think about the same job for 12 months a year? My, that would just be horrid.

This was in the Soxfest article....

"I try to stay away from baseball during the offseason," Buehrle said.

Why would he say something like that?

Think of the crying, the agony, the gnashing of teeth, the pages and pages of posts if Frank Thomas said something like this!

Well, whatever jobs we all have dont have the level of pressure and scrutiny that being a pro ball player has so yeah I can see him wanting to forget about it all for a while.

buehrle was a 38th round draft pick or something like that...that says to me not many teams believed in him..us included since we pasted on him 37 times...so he obviously knows better than anyone what it takes for him to play at his maximum potential...so if he thought sitting on the couch all winter eating bons-bons and watching oprah all day makes him a better pitcher..go for it...

Ahh, the David Wells program. I haven't started that one yet. I'll probably try it in 40-50 years. :D

If you want to be on the David Wells program, then here's all you have to do:

Each and every day, drink a 12-pack of beer, eat 3-4 cheeseburgers and/or 2 pizzas, scratch your crotch once an hour, be surly, mean, and nasty to all people you meet, don't care about your physical appearance or health, and hang out in places where you can smoke and swear like a sailor til all hours of the morning.

You follow that plan, and I guarantee within 2 months you TOO will be a major-league fatass has-been pitcher and a major-leauge dickhead to boot! :lolhitting

Yas,

There's no way you can compare the pressure of a major-league pitcher and the pressure of being a "typical working-class guy." It's apples and oranges. Athletes are held to a much higher standard - hence their much higher paychecks. If I had 10,000 people (at home games) or 35,000 people (at road games) watching my every move and b****ing about me constantly, I would most likely piss my pants or just become dependent on anti-depressants and painkillers.

Actually, I might need those anti-depressants and painkillers this season while trying to watch this team. :bang

You and Nuke are both right, of course. I was just trying to be funny. Oh well, maybe next time. :huh

"I try to stay away from baseball during the offseason," Buehrle said. "But this gets us ready for the season."--Mark Buehrle

Why would he say something like that?

Actually I attended the seminar with Mark, Jose, Hawk and DJ. You really got the impression that the way he prepares for the game in general is to relax and clear his mind. After hearing the guy talk for a while, that makes total sense with his personality.
