No LA offer for Frank

From the Chicago Sun - Times,

Another day, another trade rumor involving the White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, this one saying Frank Thomas might be set to go Hollywood.

A Newsday report over the weekend seemed to have spawned radio reports Tuesday that the Sox will send Thomas to the Dodgers for left-handed pitcher Odalis Perez.

With the Dodgers in need of offensive help and the Sox holding a vacancy in the starting rotation, the rumor would seem to be valid. Except...

"If there is ever an offer for Frank or any of our players, it's my duty to listen,'' general manager Ken Williams said Wednesday. "But there is no offer as we sit here today.''

At SoxFest last weekend, Williams said no deals are on the radar screen and told a packed room of about 2,500 fans that Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez will not be traded.

Thomas, who has the right to refuse a trade, and Paul Konerko would be the most likely players to be dealt, but only if a team offers the Sox something they like. Williams continually has said he is not shopping his core players.

Hence everyone trying to piss him off.  It makes perfect sense now.  Make him want to leave.  And it is a plan worthy of the KW regime.  I can't believe no one recognized this sooner.

I think people have suspected things, I think it just all coming together in full light now.

I'm not so sure Frank wouldn't mind playing in LA at all at this point. That is near his new home.

It's been "going around" for 3 years. I can't imagine Kenny trying to trade Frank and Jerry telling him no wasn't some sort of clue..  .

As for Frank wanting to leave the Sox.. I doubt it. His kids here being the number 1 reason, and a good one at that. Not to mention he's 35 and hasn't played at first for more than 20 or so games in how many years..?

I thought it was Frank's agent that said he had offers from LA when he was testing the FA market a little while ago. At least it is something that was repeated by Ncorgbl on a couple boards.

I'm not sure about that Fan. I vaguely recall Corg stating that Jerry stopped the deal when Kenny was on a plane. I believe there's an old thread about it here and if not, at least 10,000 of them on the MLB boards I'm sure..

my recollection is that two events are being telescoped

one was that Frank had that little period where he was checking things out on the reduced abilitiy clause or whatever it was called and he did go to LA and met with Evans and decided to stay with the Sox and the Sox deal was then renegotiated

the other serparate event was KW tried to trade Frank to Boston (was that June 30 2002?) and the shareholders got a letter about that because of the magnitude of that trade and the next morning there was a shareholder revolt in JR's office which ended with fists being pounded and the JR decision to not trade Frank

For the second event, I happened to be up in that area later that day with a shareholder and I have no doubt that is what happened because I heard the story from so many people right there who were in a position to know (and be there)

as for the first, it was one of those things where someone in Frank's posse (shall we say) called someone back in Chicago and said Frank is meeting with Evans right now and I have no reason to doubt that person in Chicago who said they got the call and that the offer was more than what the Sox offered but Frank chose to stay in Chicago

the rest of the thread is somewhat garbled too, is that a resault orf the change of servers?

thanks 2K4 for finding that! :headbang :headbang :headbang

The interesting part was on 2nd page where Corg states pretty clearly that KW's have "cost him his job"

My question is that if it did cost him his job, why is he still here?

Also, all this double talk concerning Thomas's contract (JR telling FR to not sign it) sounds rather outlandish to me, but then again this is the White Sox Organization we are speaking of...
