1549
Choosing between South Park, The Simpsons, and Family Guy is like trying to decide which member of your family you love the most...its impossible. After thinking, I chose the Simpsons, for its endurance, and because pretty much anyone can watch it and find it funny. The other two are more for teenagers and adults. I was watching beavis and butthead on MTV2 last night, and I had forgotten how funny it was. I always thought that was one hell of a show. BrandoFan
but when you talk about the best comedy show right now on T.V., without a dout, it's Family Guy. Then you shouldn't use the word "best" because Simpsons jumped the shark years ago. Family Guy is absolutely nothing special. You're impressed by curse words and inane caricatures? I am not. After the hilarious first season both Peter and the Baby come off as so damn predictable and unfunny, Marge friggin' Simpsons can give them run for their money....And she sucks! 1549
Beavis: I want to become a Republican, that would Rule! Butthead: Except, I think its like once you're a Republican, you don't score any more. Beavis: Oh, then I'll just keep being a Mexican. What are you talking about? The new simpsons they show on sundays now Blow! They are singing more now which is not funny at all. The only reason why I watch the simpons is because of Homer f***ing Simpson. He's still the only funny character. I used the word "best" because it is. But I also used the word "EVER" to say that the simpsons is the best comedy show ever. Family guy is the best comedy show on T.V. right now, easily surpassing both simpson and south park. SoxAce
Is Family Guy even on tv right now? I thought it was cancelled for the umpteenth time. Yea, I've tried to see if it was on one day and it didn't show. Maybe it was. Thank god they made the DVD. And I'm hoping for an all New Simpson DVD with all the simpson episodes from day 1 to now. Texsox
Is Family Guy even on tv right now? I thought it was cancelled for the umpteenth time. Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. It has bounced a little between 10:00 pm and 10:30 on my system. For a while it was on after Futurama, now it is on before. Someone posted a message from the Family Guy site that another network was thinking of restarting a few episodes. Speaking of Futurama, andone else bothered by hearing Peg Bundy? I watched a Married, with Children episode then happened to flip to Futurama, weird. One thing we have to always remember, like The Beatles leading the way for The Who (greatest commercial R&R band ever); The Simpsons paved the way for every other adult "cartoon" on television. It also created some credibility for a network otehr than the big 3. There is a lot of ground breaking stuff happening with that show. How does everyone compare these to sit coms with humans? Better than Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Friends, Cheers, etc.?
Cali
Family Guy is coming back presumably on FOX in Late '04 early '05. It will be the first show ever to brought back on TV after it had been cancelled based purely on DVD sales. I chose Family Guy in the poll because when Family Guy was on the air('99-'02) it was 10 times funnier than Simpsons during those Years. It's really hard to compare the two shows though, one has been on for 15 seasons, and the other for 3.

What Family Guy are you watching where they swear all the time? Unless you consider friggin, damn, and hell swear words. I actually think that the show got funnier after the first season, some of the last episodes were f***ing brilliant.

Dude, look up "jumped the shark"..... Simpsons blowing for years still doesn't make Family Guy good. You don't like singing and sentimental stuff? That's too bad. Classic Simpsons songs are great. Homer is a funny character, true.....But Willie, Monty, Moe, Wiggum, Carl, Hurtz, CBG, Krusty, Agnes Skinner, Sideshow, black officer and a ton of others, including countless guests were hilarious, too. Scorpio.... Of course one needs an attention span to watch great simpsons eps of yore. Out-of-nowhere-leading-to-nothing onelines are boring. IMO. And yet I bet Simpsons can out-quote/out-reference Family Guy with ease....last 3 years notwithstanding. You run into same arguements when comparing SNL in its various primes and MadTV in its. The latter was always more irreverent and edgier, but the former made me laugh more and harder. I guess, it's a matter of which type of comedy you go for. Homer singing) That doesn't mena that they are the best show on right now. Only a couple of characters you mentioned are funny. (skinner, Krusty, Lou, and some have their moments) I can name a ton of family guy members that are funny as hell EVERY episode. Family Guy is just funnier right now hands down. BrandoFan
How does everyone compare these to sit coms with humans? Better than Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Friends, Cheers, etc.? Simpsons are in the category of their own. I get bored with cartoon comedies anyway. MASH, Seinfeld, Larry Sanders, Fraiser...that's quality. I also love when gags are stretched out longer than they should be, that just kills me. Case in point in "Wasted Talent" when Peter trips running home with the Silver Scroll. And Stewie's letter to Brian when he runs away to England. But the thing that kills me most about the show is the delivery of the lines. Seth MacFarlane is just great at it. If you read some of the jokes on paper it wouldn't be funny, but the way he says them in whatever character he is, floors me. Some examples: The monkey's writing Shakespeare in "The King Is Dead" Brain singing "Money, Money Money" drunk off his ass God getting a call from Karen Brian's stoned/f***ed up laugh There's a bunch of others I can't think of right now... FlaSoxxJim
The Simpsons is the stuff of legends, despite obvious shark-jumpery a couple of years back. For ANY television show to last for going on 15 years is special... for a sitcom to do it is almost unheard of (only mash got close, as far as I can recall)... for an animated series that began as Tracy Ulman filler created by a weird, fat cartoonist best known for drawing one-eared rabbits and fez-wearing cartoon roommates of dubius sexual orientation is beyond the beyond. Family Guy has some seriously funny moments, but it will not pass into the realm if the universal icon the way the Simpsons has, ever. As far as the wit in the writing, the only thing that has come close to the Simpsons best was The Critic, which not surprisingly had some of the same writers. I personally would mount a one-man hunger strike if I could convince someone to bring Duckman back for another run, because it was clearly ahead of its time the first go-around. I remember the surreal FIGHT sequence in the first season that just kept, going and going and going..... OT: Seth M. was funny in Radio Days, esp when he calls his Rabbi his "faithful companion" ala John Wayne and he just flips.. OT: OT: Voice of Marge Simpsons played Seth's mother in RD. SuperSteve
I love the Simpsons, Family Guy, and Futurama. I grew up with the Simpsons, I couldn't go against them. We have had many laughs over the years. I watch Family Guy and Futurama everynight that it is on Cartoon Network. I really enjoy each of them very much. greasywheels121
I'll go w/ the Simpsons on this list, because those early episodes are still genius. I still laugh at the ones on syndication. Of course the new ones are getting weak, but look how long this show's been on for. What show does that anymore? I ran into those old Beavis and Butthead cartoons on MTV2 on late Friday night too. I could not stop laughing. The one where they try to grow corn, Beavis at Burgerworld, Yard Sale, etc....
