Chisoxfn
If the Sox go out and sign another player, what position do you think they should adress and who do you think it should be?
witesoxfan
Tom Lampkin....we need much more depth at catcher...I don't want our backup catcher to be Josh Paul. Atleast someone good defensively behind the plate...I could care less if they hit .090...as long as they got hits every once in a while and played defense well. witesoxfan
Nevermind, we got more depth at catcher...Jamie Burke and Steven Morales....nothing special, but it's what I wanted.
supernuke
If we could get Lampkin on a minor leauge deal it would be good to have a veteran availible if/when Alomar goes down. Other than that maybe Orlando Palmero if Rowand isn't going to be ready.
Chisoxfn
I'd like Palmerio too, but right now I got my sites set on Chuck Finley, but I don't want to give up a draft pick for him, so I'll say Robert Person. I love the idea of Lampkin though. I know the Sox just signed 2 catchers, but you can never have too many, imo. It isn't like we have a lot of catchers in the minors. Chisoxfn
You know they are out of money Jason. Thats what I would of thought, but look at all the moves they are making. I know minor league deals aren't anything, but to the Sox, its a new thing. Usually its the winning teams that sign guys like this to minor league deals for depth and now all of a sudden the Sox are doing it.

Mr. Showtime
I know minor league deals aren't anything, but to the Sox, its a new thing. They don't have to pay those guys much if anything if they don't make the team. Not exactly a high risk situation here.

mac9001
Sign Rick Helling!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's overrated, Kenny Rogers or Chuck Finley would be better.
Chisoxfn
They'd definately be better, but more expensive. If the Sox want to spend the money though, I won't hold back, cause Finley and Rogers would both be better. Helling is more realistic, imo, and would be sweet. I love the idea of more pitching, you can never go wrong with having excess pitching!!!!!!!!

I love the idea of more pitching, you can never go wrong with having excess pitching!!!!!!!! maybe jr is going with the idea that if he signs players and put the improve product on the field, then the fans will come. i think that they will, if you find the right pieces to put a WINNING improve team on the field. so people likes the idea of more pitching, like the yanks? finely would be a nice pickup, but not if we lose a comp pick. i would rather have rogers if we don't lose the pick and if not him then person. mac9001
We wouldn't lose a pick if we signed Finley, would we? I thought the Cards didn't offer him arbitration.

Chisoxfn
I think he rejected Aribtration, but I'm not positive on that. As far as fans go, I think if this team wins this year, after JR tried hard, more people will show up, but they ain't going to forget in just one year. The Sox are going to have to consistently try. If they fall short this year, make another move to make them even better and put them over the top. He can't just say hey, I tried, and quit. That ain't going to solve anything. You don't fix all your attendance woes in one season, it takes a lot of work. The Angels took a huge step forward this past year, but they still aren't there, although I think I read where they are due for a huge increase in season ticket sales, etc. Still, there attendance wasn't amazing, but slowly its improved and the media all of a sudden treats them with respect. The same will happen with the Sox if they continue to try and WIN. This is definately a start, but all won't be solved instantly.

It looks like they tried to make the team better in the off season so I'm willing to give them the season before I start calling names. If the team is better this year then they need to make it better next off season. And so on until this team wins a championship. Any steps backward and :fyou
cwsox
Fans come in large part because of habit. And luck. And the schedule. I remember the Memorial weekend series with Cleveland in 2000, should have had a huge crowd, but that saturday it rained all day and there were just a small number of us watching the Sox win 12-3 on a perfect night. And our attendance tailed off at Labor Day in 2000 with the division title on the line because - I think - Sox fans just haven't been accustomed to making Labor Day plans to be at Comiskey, or attend September games. It may take a few seasons of meaningful September games to get the attendance habit there. But look at this year - we have 3, count them 3, f***ing weekend series with the Tigers, no draw what so ever. I think the schedule makers hate us, or hate JR, or something. And we get both the Yankees and the BoSox on weekdays if I recall correctly. The only reason (IMHO) they did the overnight last season when they did was to get a few people to show up to see Montreal. There is no demand for Sox vs Expos games. Decent scheduling would help attendance. Every weekend can't be a great draw, but 3 weekend series with the Tigers? No matter how well the Sox do this season, the 2003 Tigers will not be a draw, and if we struggle on the field getting out of the gate those weekend series will be the usual crowd, or less. On the other hand I like smaller crowds. Easier to get in and out of the park, shorter lines in the johns and at concessions, all that good stuff! cwsox
, shorter lines in the johns and at concessions, all that Jon is the toilet variety, be nice. Where I come from - which is a country with indoor plumbing - - the restroom is a "john" and "jon" is http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/prof...le?statsId=6620 Because of corporate names I see the word spelled both ways on various different companies' products, actually. Are we really discussing this?
