YASNY
I can't wait to get your impression of Honel when he's pitching for the Barons this year. Be sure and keep us posted, as always.
DBAHO
The one thing I really like bout Honel is his BB/K ratio. He's got really good control, and hopefully he can pitch in the low 90's again. He could become a very marketable asset for the White Sox if he continues to pitch well.

Give us your impressions of him, and compare him to the other prospects we have now, in your opinion.

Give us your impressions of him, and compare him to the other prospects we have now, in your opinion. ss2k, I have only seen Honel pitch once and it was just a 5 inning stint, so I can't really say a whole lot. What I do recall is that he struggled with his velocity and was only hitting 87-88. A scout I talked to had seen him 4 times and said that was true each time I saw him. His curve ball was very good. It had a sharp 12-6 break and is definitely a plus pitch. My only concern with it is the break is so big, it may be difficult for him to throw it for strikes and not hang it up thigh high. I don't recall much of a changeup but that could have been because he didn't throw it often combined with my not paying close enough attention. Overall he had good size and seemed to have good mound presence. He didn't seem as sharp or dominant as I had hoped, but expectations are certainly high. I really don't like to evaluate a pitcher on one outing just as I wouldn't evaluate a hitter after only 3 or 4 at bats. You guys can feel free to make your own judgements or withold judgement until more information is available as I am choosing to do. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Honel and Wing pitch this year.
EvilJester99
I just hope the Sox don't try to rush Honel before he is ready. They have done that too many times and I believe hurt pitchers with that.

Rex Hudler
Bierne certainly had a nice breaking ball. I am somewhat surprised he never hung on in the Majors, even as a 5th starter for someone. He had a nice changeup as well.
aboz56
Rex since you know a lot about the minors, did you ever get the chance to see Jason Grilli pitch? And in the small chance that you did, what did you think?

And in the small chance that you did, what did you think? No, I didn't. He came up with the Marlins and they did not have an affiliate in the Southern League at that time. Last year was the first year in the league for the Marlins (maybe 2nd, hell i can't remember).
