Bad News: Robert Person blows out achilles tendon

Your kidding right? You really think cause Person who has pitched like crap and is coming off an injury affects how the dodgers think? No disrespect but I completely dissagree. This guy was a long shot to make it, in fact I could care less about him. This has no bearing at all on the dodgers issue. If we were to make a trade with the dodgers it would happen whether this guy is there or not. I hope you didn't buy the idea that this guy was the next cy young candidate.

I said it wrong. I think KW will be even more desperate and accept a low-ball offer from the Dodgers. We don't even have a solid #3 starter. Garland can be good, but he is too inconsitent.

Ok, now name a solid # 3,4, or 5 starter in our division. When your done you will see that KW is no more desperate today than he was yesterday. Nothing changed from this Person situation.

Re: Dan Wright, all I meant was he is a possibility for the 5th slot. Yes, they like his chances better in the pen, so do I.

But if he's lights out in spring (which I doubt), I'm certain they'd consider him for a starters job. He did win 14 two years ago.

I'm hoping for a trade too. But with this franchise, I'd never bank on it.

Good points. I am hoping for a deal as well.

there might not be a solid #3 starter in our division, but do we only want to win the division???...the way I see it we should definetly win the division with all our hitting and the top 2 pitchers in the division, but we wont beat the yankees, red sox, angels, or A's when that 3,4,5 starter spot comes around...

You beat me to it. I want more. We shouldn't dodge our problems by pointing out the flaws of other teams. I'm not saying Robert Person is the second coming of Christ, but this season is not looking too good if we are running out of options for our pitching staff.

Good point.

I guess they want to wait until July to "see where things stand".

That mentality drives me crazy, especially from a team whose slow starts have really cost them the past few years.

But hey ... what do I know?!?!?

Ok good point, however, do you really think Person going down actually hurts us in this situation? What do you propose we do to compete with the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, and A's rotations? You are talking about the some of the best in the league there. There just aren't that many good pitchers in the league. We have to hope we can develop Garland and our other young guys like Honel and Cotts. We have to grow our own, we can't spend like the Yanks, Red Sox, and Angels.

i'm not too upset about it. it would have been nice to give him a chance, but no big loss. i saw burkett's name come up earlier, why not give him a shot. at this point it probably won't take a lot of cash to sign him. i think he could get 10 wins and eat up some innings at the back of our rotation. he would be no worse than scho, cept he's a righty. plus he's a veteran and might teach someone a thing or two.

Baj,

Where did you get this info? Was he working out with you guys or something?

How do you blow out an Achilles tendon anyway?

If this is true, I'm pissed. I really thought he could step up and be a contributor to this team. If this is false, then let's see what happens.

:huh

The payroll is up $13 million dollars over this time last year. That is a higher percentage increase, than the increase in the number of fans of 2003vs2002.
