OK, I need not argue with you anymore They say if you argue with an idiot, one may not be able to tell the difference between the two. I now will stop before I am confused with an idiot. Good day. SoxAce
I don't think that is what the Yanks are hoping for out of Williams, Lofton, and such. I think they are expecting more than that. What the hell are you talking about? Of the course the yanks are expecting that. Lofton has to get on base in order to set up the bombers. Williams has to get the cluth hits when they are needed. What do you expect from them to always hit homers? If they always hit Solo homeruns, they will not go far. I assure you, the yankees are expectig those guys to get on base. BrandoFan
Valentin is productive? -Watch his RISP numbers in 4 years with the Sox, even including the s***ty 2003. -Underrated defense. Check out his Adjusted-Zone Rating (article was posted a month ago according to which he was deservant of a Gold Glove.....not sure about that, but he was in the top 5 fielding SS in AL overall in 2003) -An underrated baserunner, who takes extra bases and scores from 1st and 2nd exceptionally well given his only average speed. -Solid bunter. -Clubhouse cheerleader. Yeah, I would say he is "productive". Not an all-star, but still a solid player. Better than solid if someone can convince him to GIVE UP hittig RH (OPS of 400 in 2003)

BrandoFan
Here's his #'s. G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS 2502 8872 1565 2605 430 113 170 980 1330 966 808 146 .294 .385 .425 .810 He was awesome. BTW.. Henderson hit .315 when he was 40... Guys struggle to do that at 25. In his prime, a 400+ OBP from a huge baserunning threat? Yep, that's gonna get it done.

However if you are comparing Valentin's production with Bernie Williams we are going to have issues. Which is what this came to be about. You have pointed out all the good Valentin has done, but he does not hit for a high average or on base percentage. I have no problem with having him on my team. southsideirish
Thank you Brando Obviously, "productive" and "idiot" aren't in Southsideirish's volcabulary.. You are making an "idiot" out of yourself. Back up that Alomar thing. There is nothing that can back up comparing the Alomar's productions to what the Yank's expectations out of WIlliams and Lofton are. It is a ridiculous comparison as far as production. They are expecting much more production from those 2 players than anyone is expecting from the Alomars. You think production is just getting on base and clutch hits? That is all it takes for a productive player? Then there are a hell of a lot of productive players in this league. I remember some clutch hits and homers from Paulie last year, does that make him productive last year? Give me a break!

I think they are expecting more than that What are you talking about? Bernie Williams will be surrounded by awesome line-up protection and will put up 850 OPS AT LEAST. Did you watch Kenny Lofton with the Gaints and the Cubs during pennant race months in 2002 and 2003 when he actually had SOMETHING to play...and then in the playoffs? He was UNSTOPPABLE, wearig pitchers out big-time. Just because Bernie is not a 900 OPS player anymore and just because Kenny can't swipe 50 bases anymore, doesn't mean they won't be very good given the circumstances and a formidable line-up protection. I also expect big things from Matsui who's finally learned the league last year. 850 OPS and excellent clutch numbers from your #8 spot hitter? That will get it done. The Yanks are expecting much more out of these 2 players than the Alomars. This guy was comparing the production of the Alomars to Bernie frekin Williams and Kenny Lofton. Now my point is they are both old(er) players. They are both oft injured players. Kenny Lofton, in my opinion, is a National League player. He may prove me wrong, but that is what I believe. We will see what these players bring to the table this year. I think they are worn down and won't last the entire season as productive as the Yanks are expecting or wanting. Queen Prawn
It's one thing to disagree, it's another to start name calling. That's all I'm gonna say 'bout that. southsideirish
Im going to ask the same question SoxnBears did, because I wondering the same thing. Why is it when ever you pop your head up on this board, it always leads to an arugment??? where did SoxnBears ask me this? I did not see that. I don't know why. Would you like to tell me why? This is all opinion based stuff here. Why do people insist that my opinion is wrong. I told these people that I agree to disagree. They keep on pushing me for answers to back up my opinion, so I give it.

I have agreed to disagree on this board, someone wanted to keep pushing me to back up my opinion. Why I believe a certain way. When this person sees that I don't adjust my opinion to his liking he decides to call me a name. YOu tell me why that is.

He compensates for his lack of average with hitting when it matters more often than an average player. NEVER look at BA by itself. He also plays a SS position and not OF. if he could give you a Tim Raines-like OBP, he wouldn't be making 5 Mill. And why are you comparing him to an All-Star Bernie Williams? Bernie makes almost 3 times as much. Different player.
