Gene Honda Civic
The title of this thread (subtitle at least) implies that Yankee fans aren't real fans, which I would disagree with, just wanted to point that out. Did anyone else catch that? Because obviously this trade didn't ruin baseball for Yankee fans. I would argue with that... It's a given that the yankees have the most fans in terms of numbers. But how many of those are the casual fan. One who maybe makes it to 1 game a year. Best example... My best friend... Not a real sports fan... Grew up in the pits at drag racing events... Works for a small racing company... Cheered wildly when the cubs won the NLDS, Practically cried when they blew the NLCS... He only follows two Baseball teams, The scrubs and the spankmes... He couldn't tell you what the infiled fly rule was, define a balk, or know how to keep score at a baseball game. Let alone debate the most effective way to characterize a player's offensive or defensive performance, be it OPS or Range Factor... Sure he's happy the Yanks got Pay-rod, if he even knows. But a collection of "fans" like him hardly notice when there's no baseball. A single move , be it a trade, signing, or even a strike, isn't going to make a big deal to them. Sure this trade didn't ruin baseball for them, Nothing would, they don't know enough no really have it effect them. I'll take my Sox fans any day. They are perhaps the most knowledgable fans in all of sports. They question ownership & management, and make thier voices heard in terms of attendence, both good and bad. Steff
I know a lot of folks like that Cheat. My brother in law is a good example. Yankee fan, or so he says.. yet he has no idea why it's necessary to have a lefty in the rotation, and he had to ask what GIDP stood for.. :headshake
Rex Hudler
I would be fine with an 80 Mill MAX and 50 Mill MIN. AND the rev sharing to put NFL to shame. Think big people. I'm sure the union would shoot for $140 million cap and $80 million floor. They would cite the phase in period and force the owners to account for increases in salary up to that time. BrandoFan
I could care less what the union wants just as am I sure it could care less what I want. I find it hilarious that in the period between 1988 and 1997, Sox payroll jumped 900%.

I guess you can basically do this with any fan base. I have a friend who is a white sox fan that is exactly the same way. My brother is a cub fan and is very knowledgable about his team and the game. I doubt I have seen or talked to enough Yankee fans to come to a conclusion about an entire or even the majority of the fan base, but the ones I have talked to seem to know what they are talking about. Both about their team, other teams, and the game. They do seem to get more casual fans than other teams as do the cubs. That may dilute each fan base in respect to the knowledge that they have. Flash Tizzle
I guess it is a good thing that I have no idea who Avril Levign is. LOL Its probably because you eat, sleep, and excrete baseball. She's a pop singer from Canada. (Some might belive that her music is "punk," but they're wrong.)
