southsider2k5
By TWO years..? Jim Rome is talking about it right now.. I am surprised it took this long to come out. After 9-11 there were a WHOLE BUNCH of people who got busted for this.

He mentioned that he (Soriano) had gotten questioned about it back then but the Yanks kept it quiet. Rome.. "So.. not only will he never pitch in the WS again.. he's aged 2 years overnight". upnorthsox
Soriano is a pitcher now? That Romey sure is sharp.
Rex Hudler
There were questions about his age when he first signed with the Yankees and started in the Minors.
Queen Prawn
Soriano is a pitcher now? That Romey sure is sharp. That confused me as well...then again the way today has been going, confusing me isn't all that difficult!

Rex Hudler
Void the Deal, Void the Deal LOL It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the Rangers demanded another prospect be thrown in. Perhaps a mid-level pitching prospect?
baggio202
this is a good example of why age is so overrated when looking at a prospect...obviously coriano felt at the time that if he didnt lie about his age he may never have been given the chance...look how great a player he is and because he might have been considered a little old for a prospect he would still be on the island.. if miles bust out this year he would be another example...david eckstein (26 his rookie year) and brian giles (28 when he became a full time player) are others.. i think scouts would be better served to re-evaluate their stance on age and just look at skill...how many sorianos are still on the island because they didnt lie about their age??? southsideirish
Soriano is a pitcher now? That Romey sure is sharp. Maybe they are talking about Rafael Soriano, the pitcher from the Mariners. Isn't he about the same age? Maybe a year younger?

Acutally Alfonso got off the island to go play in Japan and then came to the US. He was not like a typical Dominican signee. He has already played professionally overseas. Could be Rafael Soriano, but I wouldn't think Rome would make much of a deal out of him.

Unless he played for the Yankees and was just traded to Texas.. I don't think so.
SoxFanForever
Pretty sure Rome was joking about the age thing with that Almonte kid in the Little League World Series and making a joke of Soriano with it.

Why else would he call him a pitcher? If he screwed up the positions then maybe he even screwed up the first names. If anyone was listening could they please give a bit more information. Thank you. Did you hear it..? He seemed to be taking a shot at the Yanks for covering it up. Kept saying "Why would they do that..? What's the point..? A lot of guys probably do it". He did make a joke about Sosa really being 55 though..

Works really well on South Padre Island during spring break. Geeky, pathetic middle age guys aren;t nearly as cool and sexy grandpas

CSF
LOL It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the Rangers demanded another prospect be thrown in. Perhaps a mid-level pitching prospect? Who else do they have? They've given away all of their prospects. They're gonna have a bunch of Crash Davises in their farm system before long. Rex Hudler
Juan Cruz is 25. He was caught lying about his age, previously. He aged two years in one offseason a couple of years ago. His correct birthdate is 10-15-78. Wilton Chavez and Francis Beltran are the only other Cubs players I have heard of that had to correct their age. The Sox only had 9 players (plus Pacheco before he got here) who had falsified or incorrectly reported their age. Ruddy Yan is the only notable one.
