Gene Honda Civic
thats more than the sox will draw this year, and the season hasnt even started yet. not to mention that pays over half of there salary already. They drew something like 3.7 MIL last season, and are likely to top 4MIL this year. :puke
cwsox
it is something to think about, yes? If we had signed Maddux and found a way for the big trade or the big free agent signing - it appears we are following the anaheim and florida route of being small and getting hot at the right time - no doubt if we had some big news, we would be selling a lot more tickets than we are now

southsideirish
This is something our organization will never understand. We, the core fans, will always go to the game. That is not the problem. By getting great players in your draw more attention to your team. You get more exceitment. By doing that you draw the casual fan in. Drawing more and more casual fans is how you make the money. Once you get that and you get more income then you can start spending more, because all we want is to break even, right Jerry? Come on Jerry!!!!!
witesoxfan
yea maybe it will teach JR he needs to make a splash in the off season even if he thinks we can win already. That has been taught to him for about 10-15 years. He still doesn't know it. Won't change this year I wouldn't think either.

Pastime
Adding a big name to your roster will draw fans? Get outta here - that's just crap! The fans have to come out in droves, and THEN you can add a big name. That's the way it has always been. Why is this so hard to understand? That's Jerry's mentality, and you can see the success he's having with it. :dips***
bulokis
Thats what a good team brings! Yankees - committed to winning, Sox - committed to make SOX fans whinning.
southsider2k5
So if I remember right, the White Sox have never had in attendance, what the Yankees have sold by Feb 19th. Boy that is reason for optimism
Steff
IMO, Sox fans will not come out in droves after a big signing. Casual fans will. We've seen what happenes when they come out (Ligue anyone...?) A big signing will get "real" Sox fans talking, and maybe out to a few more games.. but a 500K jump in attendance.. not likely. They were already fooled once by the Belle signing (lord how I sometimes wish that NEVER happened.. ) and I just don't think they trust the Sox to do anything more than "rent-a-player" for more than a season (i.e.. Colon) Plain and simple, winning for more than 1 year will bring the "real" fans back.
