Peoria Central vs. West Aurora

Recommended Posts

f*** Livingston.  Lets go West Aurora and Illini signee Shaun Pruitt. :headbang

Meh. Illinois sucks, I used to be a casual fan of college bball, and generally rooted for the Illini, but then I realized they weren't going anywhere. Well, at least their basketball team has a lot more promise than the s***hole of a football program they run.

I'm a big fan of Cerasoli, too. I like Seton Hall a lot. Will be a quality game.

From the trib's website:

A whole lot of people showed up at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday night—including representatives from 24 NBA teams—to check out the nation's top-rated high school basketball player.

Peoria Central's 6-foot-7-inch point guard Shaun Livingston didn't live up to the hype during a 62-52 loss to No. 3 West Aurora in the ninth annual City-Suburban Showdown, and he didn't impress the likes of Bulls general manager John Paxson, his brother and Cleveland Cavaliers GM Jim Paxson and Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge.

In the first game of the doubleheader, No. 5 Brother Rice shot down St. Patrick 62-44.

Whether the slender Livingston is worthy of an NBA lottery pick or better suited to further develop his game at Duke is a matter for the pro general managers and scouts to decide.

He struggled at Northwestern as West Aurora jumped out to a 31-13 halftime lead before a sellout crowd of 8,117. Livingston, who wound up with 16 points, was forced to play out of position. He moved to center and replaced 6-6 DeAndre Miranda, who suffered a knee injury in practice Thursday.

Justin Cerasoli, the 6-5 guard who has signed with Seton Hall, defended Livingston and held the Lions standout to four points in the first half. Peoria didn't score a field goal in the first quarter. West Aurora (24-1) led 45-28 after three quarters and cruised against Peoria (21-2) as Cerasoli scored 13 points and Jaeh Thomas added 11.

"This means a lot to us," said Pruitt, who finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. "Hopefully we can carry this into the postseason. I felt like nobody on Peoria's team could stop me in the post. Justin did a great job guarding Shaun. With his length, he matches up the best against him."

When I saw Livingston in the state championship game, he didn't stand out. He struggled tonight. Perhaps he is a choke.

Looks like Pruitt had a decent game... and oh wow... outperformed Mr. Livingston you say?

Next year's Illini is going to be a fun team to watch if Pruitt gets a good amount of playing time with everyone back except for "Snacks" Howard.

Did livingston underperform? Kinda. He was really forced to play out of position when their center got in foul trouble and had to go to the bench. Then livington ahd to guard Pruitt down low, and it was apparent to see that it wasn't gonna happen. Peoria got dominated on the boards and that's why they lost the game. I don't know why people are expecting him to go out and score 40 or whatever in a 32 minute game. What I will say is, he seemed a little lazy and so did the team. The whole stadium was behind Aurora. Livingston also showed signs of greatness and he made a lot of great feild goals and some amazing shots on the baseline, practically behind the backboard over Pruitt who easily had 50 plus pounds on him.

If Livingston is the best or 2nd best player in the country, it shouldn't matter who he's gaurding or what position he is playing. He should still be the best player on the court. I didn't see the game, so I can't tell if he was or not, but from the sounds of the article he wasn't.

Alright, whatever, put jason kidd or another great one guard at center and see what happens. If he was going to illinois you would be all for him, but their coach wanted out and they can't keep players who verbally committed. Illinois was never in the race because Arizona and Duke are just that much better.

Magic Johnson played center in the NBA finals and dominated. The fact is SL didn't play well yesterday on offense. He had no chance to guard Pruitt but I heard Cerasoli really limited him offensively. It isn't like he was playing center on offense. He is an extremely good player, and the reason I personally don't like him is because he showed no class during the end of his recruitment not because he chose Duke (that obviously didn't help :D ), as I really have no ill will towards Charlie Villanueva for going to Conneticut. And as far as being successful in the NBA, if you are a guard, I would choose Zona over Duke. Zona- Mike Bibby, Damon Stoudamire, Steve Kerr, Gilbert Arenas. Duke-Corey Maggette and that is all. Jay Williams-motorcycle accident, Bobby Hurley-car accident, William Avery-Who?, Trajan Langdon-whatever happened to him? But since I have a feeling SL will go pro anyways the Duke jinx may not apply to him.

If you put Jason Kidd against high school players he can play at the center spot without question. Besides Livingston has the height to go with the skills. Oh and I'm not an Illinois fan so why should I care where he goes? As a Northwestern fan I'm happy he didn't go to U of I.

Hmm, I hought u went to U of I, must have been someone else. As for kidd I was referring to him playing center in the nba, at his level of competition. Livingston has height, and he was one of the taller players on the court, but hes a point guard, and hes definetly not built to be a center.

What do you mean?

More or less showing disrespect for fans of Illinois. Basically there was just a lot of lying going on. He let Illinois think we had a chance when we never did, I would have preferred he just eliminated us right away so we could begin recruiting other players. He wore U of I clothing the day of and the day before his announcement which every single person obviously took as a sign he may be committing to Illinois. Even though he said he wouldn't let anyone know until the day of the decision he had told Duke recruit Demarcus Nelson on Monday that he would attend Duke but he didn't tell his good friend Brian Randle. The other thing that bothered me was not Shaun, but Shaun's dad Reggie Livingston told a person I know that Shaun was attending U of I and that was the day before the decision. It was just a culmination of things that I felt were disrespectful, and I feel he really went about his recruitment the wrong way towards the end. Maybe I read into some of the things he did to much, but you know as a fan that people always look at that kind of stuff and he should know better.

That's 2 people who have thought I'm out of college in the last couple days. I must be really mature or something. The thing about Livingston is that he is the tallest player on the court, as well as the best. It's a very similar comparison to Magic, and Magic pulled it off.
