MurcieOne
Well, this year we will have a minor league section on the site, which will be run by Jason (chisoxfn), Cerb, and Mark (Murcie). I think they will update the list every month or so. That section will be up and running sometime around March I'd say. It is great to see a Sox prospect post on here, I would've never of thought so. At the begginning of the season, I think that you'll most likely see a new list. updating some of the players that are not here anymore.......... and the ones who have improved through spring training and such. as much as i respect your knowledge but having jon adkins rated that high????????? are you high? been hanging around with sox420? Well at that time, Jon was pitching pretty well.......but yeah..... he was rated wayyyyyy to high. another year of experience..... my list will be far better. MurcieOne
Munoz has two curveballs? Sheesh...if he can get a decent offspeed pitch and build up some stamina, he could be one hell of a pitcher in the near future. Is it just me or could he be the second coming of Barry Zito? I'm kinda intrigued as to why munoz isn't being converted into a starter....... I mean if he doesn't have the stamina..... thats one thing...... but why not give it a shot, because all things indicate that this guy has dynamite stuff. Hopefully they give the kid a little rest, then see what he can do. If he can take the innings, he's got a real shot I think.

(TRYING= he may be just too damn good and may be ready to be in the bigs by mid-season)

Who's you favorite Minor Leaguer....? oh man that is hard. there sooooo many and for different reason. the one i really was excited about was barcelo. but he is toooooo strong for his joints. too much stress if you can believe that. this guy is a monster with the biggest hands i ever shook. completely engulf my hands and i got some wide hands myself. munoz, honel, and strumm for pitching. and with bullard i may now add b/c now i can put a person to the name. infielders has to be gonazles ss "of" webster, borchard. but you have to understand, i am soooooo stoke by ALL of our younger lower level talent. i just can't put it in the right words. when these guys come up, i can honestly see many yrs of the sox being in the playoff. i am serious here and not day dreaming. MurcieOne
Our minor league system is pretty badass........ My favorite minor leaguer before this week........... was Felix Diaz.... However, talking to Mr. Bullard..... I think he has to be number 1 in my book. Any guy who will take time to talk to fans in his off time.... is more than just a ballplayer, he's a professional athlete.

MurcieOne
Well i think the only area we are weak in is unfortunately.........catcher. we could definitely afford to pick us up a couple cat(thats for you Ldf) prospects via trade...... or through the next draft. Bullard
Thanks Murcielago and LDF for the kind words. I love talkng with fans b/c I'm still a fan too and I like to see whats going on on the other side of the fence. You guys and girls really spurn up some great debates and I'm glad I found this chat room so I can get in on the action. A side note on Stumm: When he is healthy he has the best fastball in our organization and some of the best offspeed stuff as well. When he gets healthy again, and if he can stay that way, he will move quickly through the system. THe guy also has a great mind, I mean he has withstood 3 surgeries since '99 but yet he still has a positive outlook and he still works his ass off everyday trying to get better. Finally on Munoz: He could definitely start w/ what he brings to the table. When we were in Kannapolis and then Bham together he had some 3-4 innings relief duties and he pitched outstanding in all of them and he could have easily went 2-3 more innings if needed. He is only 21 and I think if he aint in the Bigs this yr at some point he will be starting in AAA. Alright that's all I got for now. I gotta go watch the mighty Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara Kick TOny Gwynn and San Diego St. ass.

Jim Fainter
I'm pulling for Jason Stumm also. I was just surprised that he was in somebody's top 3. I saw him interviewed by the Hawk right after he signed, and he seemed like a great kid. Now he seems like a great competitor. I hope he gets healthy enough to have a decent year at a high enough classification this year, because I think he has to be promoted to the 40 man roster at the end of this year or be vulnerable to the draft. TO Jim Bullard: I know Jason pitched an inning vs the Rockies in the Hall of Fame game last summer, and he really got lit up. Was he hurt either before or during that one game? Bullard
LDF, I would not say per se that there were obstacles to overcome in becoming a pro. A lot of it is luck, being in the right place at the right time and having a scout in the stands who sees something in you. I was fortunate enough to have all 3 of these things in my favor. And of course lastly I had to perform well to get me over the edge. SInce I was 9 I wanted to play pro ball and I have been fortunate enough to have been able to do it. There is no real stress b/c I take it a day at a time and dont ever get my emotions too high or too low. To survive in this game it is a lot more mental than physical b/c obviously people get drafted based on physical tools but they will only succeed with a strong mind. Bullard
LDF, I'm not gonna lie a tell you that i am the best pitcher in the org or the worst. Honestly i think i am a solid end of the rotation starter. i throw 86-91, have a slider i can throw for strikes any time in the count, and i also have a changeup which is pretty good at times. I compete and I expect to win every time out and I throw strikes and challege guys. i plan on having a solid year at Bham, barring injury of course. Jim Fainter, Stumm seemed fine to me at the Cooperstown game and he was throwing hard. You cant really judge anyone when they've pitched at that field in Cooperstown. It was a band box. I think it was only 350ft to center. Stumm competed and thats all u can ask for there.
chicago
Wow i cant believe i got so many responses from my question about Bullard. even better he even responded to this forum. Bullard you really seem genuine and like a cool guy. But why wouldnt you be, you're a CA boy like myself. Its cool to see a pro guy talk with us outsiders that are trying to get a glimpse of a pros life. I have a question for you since now i know you read this stuff. Doesn't it kinda suck that you don't get the recognition that some of the other ptchers do. i think from what i've read about you that you are just as good as the "prospects" if not better than some. hang in there and dominate this year so people finally will see how good you are. hogsmom
Any idea who will be coming back to W-S this season? We love to see the boys progress, but always like some familiar faces and names. My freind and I always make on or two trips a year to Charlotte as well to keep up with the guys. Hopefully will get up to Chicago some day. Take care of them fpor us up north, OK? They have said that they want to convert him to the rotation, but are going to start him off very very slow the first month or two because of all the innings he's pitched. I think he'll have a full season in the minors and he'll go to the rotation in the 2nd half and won't pitch winterball next year, because his arm could use the rest. I wouldn't even use him in Spring Training much if at all, because he just needs and deserves some rest.

Cerbaho (Mike Doyle) is going to have something up on that probably this week. We've been a bit delayed in our previews, but they will talk about the newcomers as well as the people staying there for some experience. They should get some really good talent though, as the Sox are stacked at the lower level. By the way Bullard, tomorrow I'll be watching my Titans (Go Cal State Fullerton) as they defeat the Mighty Stanford Cardinals. Also as far as my favorite minor leaguer, I'm starting to really like Bullard. I was always a Buerhle fan when he was in the minors and typically my favorite pitchers are those lefties that don't get enough recognition. Hopefully one day you'll be exciting all of us while pitching at Comiskey (I'll still call it that). Thanks for all the info you've given us posters here.
