DBAHO
From da Trib, TUCSON, Ariz.—A small diamond at the White Sox's spring training complex is about to be christened. "We're going to name it Harris Field," manager Ozzie Guillen said Sunday. It's a place where second baseman Willie Harris figures to spend a lot of time in the next couple of weeks. "We're going to spend a lot of time there because my goal is to make this kid better," Guillen said of his leadoff hitter. "He's going to be one of the keys for us." Guillen will have Harris work on bunting and defensive play. Harris, 25, inherits the leadoff spot since Roberto Alomar now is across the complex at the Arizona Diamondbacks' camp. The top spot in the order is vital, Guillen said. "It sets the tone for the big boys," he said. "I don't worry about Frank [Thomas], I don't worry about Magglio [Ordonez], I don't worry about [Carlos] Lee or [Joe] Crede because I know what they are capable of doing." The intensive instruction can't begin until Wednesday, when position players report. Harris arrived Thursday and has been hitting in the cages. He's looking forward to the individual attention. "It's a good thing," he said. "When they stop paying attention, that's when you worry. This is my chance. Hopefully things go well."
WillieHarris2
man does willie need this. he needs to prove himself this year and he's already shown that he's dedicated to doing that by arriving early to camp.
greasywheels121
If Willie can come on strong this season, he will be a bigger key than people think. BTW, whats are lineup going to be? Im going to be happy to hopfully be able to see the same lineup night in and night out, rather than a different one every other day with Jerry. I'm not sure about the lineup as a whole, but do you think Ozzie will pencil in C. Lee in the 2 spot? He really thrived being #2 in the lineup. I didnt like the way Jerry handeled the lineup so i hope ozzie handles that differently.

fattyguy78
Any word on Uribe putting in extra time or trying to win the 2b job at all?
DonkeyKongerko
IIRC, Ozzie Guillen made Juan Pierre his "project" last season. I'd say he did a pretty good job. It seems Willie is very eager to learn this season and I will be happy to see him under the guidance of our new manager.
SnB
If there was one thing the sox really needed last year it was a true leadoff hitter. Speedy, quick with his bat and legs. If willie can come through this year, it makes this team THAT much better.
southsider2k5
One thing Ozzie could do well was bunt. He could bunt for a sacrifice and for a base hit. If Willie could pick up that skill he will be dangerous with a capital D.
