Back up Third baseman

Jose Valentin will be the backup 3B.  And Uribe will play SS when he does.

The opposition's scouting report - "Hit everything you can to the left side!."

:bang  :puke

Hey, if there's one thing Uribe can do is pick it. He does have some issues with his throwing (most of his errors come of bad throws), but errors are too highly emphasized on defense anyway.

BTW, same goes for Jose, but to a lesser extent.

What's up with that remark? Jose is decent at 3B and Uribe is GG caliber at SS.

Joe is going to kick ass at 3rd this year. No need to worry about back-up.

P.S.... Please, Lord, let Joe kick ass at 3rd this year..

Joe will, he showed some real good leather last year, and played 3b overall real well. He will be given days off here and there, but the Jose and Uribe scenerio would work just fine for the amount of rest Joe will require.

YASNY is right. Valentin is a decent 3Bman and even the critical pres reports said that Jose did more than an adequate job at third. Uribe may also play 3B since he is the super sub replacing Tony G. I am sure he will get time at 3B, 2B and SS this Spring.

I guess it'd depend on whether they carry 12 pitchers.

If they carry 11, there's room for one more "super sub" guy, someone who can play multiple positions and serve as an emergency catcher.

The only guy like that in the system is Ryan Hankins. Hankins can play 1B, 3B, 2B, LF, and catcher.

Cooper has said he'd like to have 12 pitchers, so we'll see.

Isn't this the question that surfaces every Spring? How many pitchers to take North? Usually because of the fact the first few weeks of the season have a lot of off days that fifth starter doesn't get used or the extra relief pitcher sits. I think 12 pitchers isn't a bad thing, but it seems we always need that extra field player off the bench and don't have him.
