Mr. Showtime
Good article from the SouthTown, featuring Sox players talking about the Cubs. Sox players who attended SoxFest earlier this month got a small dose of what could be in store this coming baseball season. "I know the Cubs are usually the headlines, but everywhere we turned that weekend was 'Cubs, Cubs,' '' lefty pitcher Mark Buehrle said. "And that was supposed to be SoxFest weekend." The Critic
More boo-hooing. It's not getting old, it's old already. Win baseball games and the coverage will take care of itself. If they want to see their names in the paper so bad, they should go join the Cubs.

fullcollapse
i liked this part What's really disheartening for the Sox and their fan base is that even when the team won the American League Central Division in 2000, the Cubs drew more fans to their ballpark and seemed to make just as many headlines for how bad they were. i could see that this year... imagine if the cubs fail and the sox do well, which i don't think is out of the question. all the talk will still be about the cubs. Steff
I have no idea what fest Mark attended.. but the topic of the weekend was more that the fans were pissed (no thanks to me.. ) than anything about the Cubs. I don't even recall much Cub talk. And the news in all the papers was about how we lynched them at the Q&A. Maybe if someone had ventured out of their room and not left early... The Critic
Didn't mean to shock you, Show! I'm just SO tired of this "poor poor us" attitude from Sox fans and now the players themselves. The Cubs are getting media attention LATELY for the things they have done on and off the field. Like it or not, they came very damn close to the World Series last year, with only the flukiest fluke of all flukes keeping them from it. I was absolutely certain that a 3-run 8th inning lead would be enough with Prior on the mound, but there you have it. After that implosion, Game 7 was a given for Florida. Since then, they have addressed most of their preceived weaknesses with solid acquisitions ( 1B, RH and LH setup, bench bats, etc. ) and have only increased their chances for postseason success this year. I feel less annoyed by the media attention given them this year because they've actually DONE something to deserve it. It's not like the media is fawning over a 68-win team, as they have done in the past. If the Sox are that pissed off about it, DO something about it - win some games, win a title, make some noise in the playoffs! But please don't whine in the papers about it! Steff
Critic. I think it's ironic that Mark "b****ing" isn't headline news like it is when Frank "b****es"... A blurb in the papers.. ya know if Frank had said this Bruce Wolf would have dedicated the full sportscast this morning to 50 more reasons Frank should be traded.. :puke

Perhaps he was talking about the Buzz around town, what was in the media, the hats people were wearing on the subway, etc..... He didn't say inside SoxFest. Bruce Wolf is a pud thumper and I wish the Loop wouldn't use him as their sports/news guy. As soon as I here the boys announcing him, I gotta change the station. :puke

Purdue129
I'm just glad I'm away from the tv and newspaper coverage of the Bartman ball this week. I'm sure the destruction of that ball will be the lead story all week. Stupid Cubs fans. :fthecubs
