southsider2k5
Wow. You don't see too many big name for big name trades in the NFL. Although with the way the Broncos develop RB's this could be a great deal for them.
WillieHarris2
Ya both these players are studs so it kinda benefits both teams
Elcaballo45
Champ Bailey is good, dont get me wrong... but I would be very upset if I was a Bronco fan. Portis is a TD possiblitly everytime he touches it, regardless of wheres he's at on the field. He has to be considered the best RB in the league, right up there with Priest and Jamal Lewis. Are the Broncos thinking that the performance by Quinnten Griffen in Week 16 against the Colts was eneugh to make him the starting RB? Speaking of the Bronocs, has anyone heard if Shannon Sharpe will be coming back next year or is he retiring?
knightni
Mike Anderson would probably start to begin the season if Portis gets traded. Denver has needed secondary help since the year after their last Super Bowl win.
Chisoxfn
The Broncos know they can basically insert a player in and they will become a pretty strong running back. I'm guessing Quentin Griffin will be their new starting running back. He played very good in the games where Portis went down. Its a lot easier to find a good running back in the Bronco's system as it is to get a corner like Bailey (Possibly the best cb in the NFL and he's just entering his prime). maggliopipe
Mike Anderson just requested a release from his contract after the Broncos asked him to take a major paycut, and I think he'll be granted it. With their offensive line remaining intact (I think), it's an okay trade for Denver, especially if they're also getting a second round pick. This should create another quality fantasy RB, so do it. ChiSox_Sonix
as a Chiefs fan, i hope this goes through because i am sick of seeing Portis run over the Chiefs, and its only been 2 years, but iy's been a long 2 years, lol
Chisoxfn
I think the Broncos go with Turner in the 2nd round if he is there. I also think he'd be an excellent selection for the Bears.
SuperSteve
I agree with Jas when he said Griffen could play. I think they have a good enough team without Portis, although he did carry the team at times this season.
DBAHO
Broncos will definitely draft a RB if they trade Portis in the first 3 rounds. Sharpe looks like he's retiring, so they'll take Troupe if he's on da board with their 1st pick, but man do they need a CB. Gees Portis and Brunell, I'm startin to get a lil worried as a Cowboys supporter unless we trade for Henson or Ramsey, which the latter certainly ain't gonna happen. DBAHO
Draft News, From Hacksaw Hamilton (AM 690): - Maurice Clarett came off as "very immature" in interviews with two teams - the Patriots and the Cowboys. I heard that his stock is now falling hard. - WR Mike Williams of USC is being advised to stay another year in school because it is said that his 40 time is just 4.65. He's being projected somewhere between 10-15 overall. If he stays another year, wins the Heisman, and USC wins another National Championship, he might be considered #1 overall for the 2005 draft. - Robert Gallery ran a 4.91 on his 40 yard dash and benched 31 reps. Ideally, he should go either first overall to the Chargers or 2nd to the Raiders. - Cardinals offered the Bengals a 3rd rd. pick for RB Corey Dillon. witesoxfan
Here is my bold prediction. Jared Payton gets picked before Maurice Clarett. Discuss. I very little doubt about it. I've heard that Payton is moving up pretty quickly. IMO, he could be a mid-2nd to early 3rd round pick if he keeps on keepin on(I think he will). And if Clarett keeps doing what he's been doing, he'll continually move down and down until he gets to about the mid-3rd, early 4th. He hasn't played a game of actual football in well over a year, was injury prone in his only year as a starter, and is chubby...at about 240 pounds, I would guess he'd be better suited as a fullback right now then a halfback, though I would also venture to guess he doesn't block worth a damn either. Clarett is going to have to work his f***ing ass off to get back to where he was in the 02 season, and that will be for the start of the NFL season...he has virtually no shot at getting there before the draft. He and Drew Henson are in the same category, however, Henson has actually shown that he is still solid. He has had a good attitude through the whole thing, has worked his ass off, and now has some value(and the Texans gamble will payoff). Meanwhile, Clarett has not missed many meals. I my memory is correct.. The Bears had a shot at Bailey.. but they traded down so the 'skins could get him.. They wanted a QB that year. :fyou
Gene Honda Civic
By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com The Redskins have beaten the Broncos to the punch. Clinton Portis agreed Monday to an eight-year, $50.5 million deal with Washington, making him the highest-paid running back in league history. Portis' deal includes $17 million in combined signing and option bonuses. The agreement has not been filed to the league, but Portis is expected to sign it within the next two days. Wednesday is the first day NFL trades can be consummated. Portis had two years left on his original rookie deal with the Broncos. He was scheduled to make $380,000 this season and $455,000 in 2005. Am I the only one who thinks that wahington is getting hosed in this deal.. Portis is a good back, but he's under contract for the next two years. on the cheap. So they decide to give him a huge signing bonus, and increase his pay %1000. And I doubt he'll perform as great in DC as he did @ MIle High. He won't have the same quality offensive line infront of him. Denver will have another 1400+yd back next season and get a shut-down corner and a second round pick... DBAHO
I agree with u completely Cheat. I dunno if Portis is a Gibbs type of running back as well, he ain't big, and I dunno if he'll be able to pound it at least 30 times week afta week which is what Gibbs wants. They r goin to hav to cut probably Trotter to make this work cap wise, and rework sum deals like Chris Samuels which prob won't happen cos his agent is Ramsey's as well. DBAHO
The trade is official now, By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com And now the second shoe has fallen. Just one day after Clinton Portis agreed to the largest contract ever awarded a running back, ESPN.com has learned that Champ Bailey approved a landmark cornerback deal with Denver on Tuesday night that will result in the two players switching teams later this week. The Washington Redskins star and four-time Pro Bowl performer will sign a seven-year, $63 million contract, the final piece of the puzzle in the trade that will send Bailey and a second-round draft choice to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Portis. The contact, the largest ever for a cornerback, includes an $18 million signing bonus and roster bonuses that total $5 million.
