southsideirish
Pitcher Jon Lieber, who cut short a throwing session Monday after experiencing tightness in his right groin, will be shut down for the next week. Lieber hasn't pitched since Tommy John surgery in 2002, but he stretched and played catch Tuesday and said his groin felt better. "If I miss two or three [mound sessions,] I don't think that will jeopardize me being ready," he told Newsday. "If it takes two weeks, it takes two weeks
cwsox
I never wanted us to sign him because of the questions of whether he can pitch again
SoxAce
Damn, if the injuries keep going for the yankees, I don't think they'll be going anywhere.
The Critic
Not unexpected that he'd have some muscle problems on his way back, but the groin can be a problem that stays with you. Too bad, I really like Jon Lieber. I hope for his sake ( NOT for the sake of the Spankees, although unfortunately the two are linked ) that it's a temporary setback. I did want the Sox to take a chance with him, just because he's a true professional and, when healthy, a very effective pitcher.

I would rather have him and his non-existant ego then have Mark "I'm a mix of Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens" Prior.

I'm talking about the fact that Jon Lieber has been a work horse and has put up very good numbers while not having an ego. Mark Prior once said something to the extent of "I am a little bit of Nolan Ryan and a little bit of Roger Clemens." To me, that says you could pop his head with a needle, and you could then watch him fly away. He is the type of person that was the reason people came up with terms like "jagoff/jackoff" and "asshole"

SoxAce
I'd still rather have Prior. Agreed. I don't give a damn how much s*** a pitcher talks. If he can back it up, by all means, keep talking. If Prior was on the sox, every sox fan would be talking about him.

witesoxfan
Yeah, I would probably take him too if I were ever given the choice. I just wanted to see what people would say. I mean, I do think he's the best pitcher in the majors for a reason. I just also think he has about the biggest ego of anyone in the league to go along with his talent.
