Spring Training Update

From da Trib, interestin article, Jeremy Reed a Darrin Erstad type? Damn, I hope that doesn't mean he's gonna get injured a lot.

TUCSON, Ariz.—Jason Grilli has thrown the ball well, as have Mike Jackson and Jon Rauch, and Juan Uribe "has shown up on fire," according to White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.

But that was last week. As far as Guillen is concerned, Monday is "when the party starts."

It may be just an intrasquad game, but Monday is when Guillen will get a better evaluation of his players and what they can—and most importantly can't—do.

"You can't judge how someone is throwing in the bullpen or pitching against your own teammates with a screen in front of you," Guillen said.

The screen part will change Monday and Tuesday for the intrasquad games, and Thursday the Sox will see different uniforms when the Cactus League season starts.

"I can't wait," Guillen said. "Maybe Friday I can tell you who's the guy that impressed me the most, because I'll get a chance to see them throw and hit and play baseball." …

Dan Wright and Neal Cotts will both pitch Monday as they begin the battle for the fifth-starter spot. There are five legitimate candidates for the job with Rauch, Grilli and left-hander Josh Stewart also getting a chance. The Sox will try to schedule a couple more "B" games so all five can get enough innings to make a fair evaluation. … Outfield prospect Jeremy Reed, who some feel will be in Chicago before the end of the season, had a little fan club at Sunday's workouts. Reed tore up Double A last season, hitting .409 in 66 games. "I feel like I have a shot [to make the team]," Reed said earlier in camp. "Hopefully I can open up some eyes and see where it takes me." Reed, a center fielder, is a Darin Erstad-type player, according to Sox general manager Ken Williams.

I'm going to Arizona to see the White Sox March 20 thru March 25.  It will be my first visit to a White Sox Spring Training and I am pumped. :headbang  :headbang  :headbang  :headbang

If you get time, go to the Minor League complex and check out some of the action there. It is real laid back and hardly anyone there, so you can really see it up close.

I've never been this excited for SPRING TRAINING.  I'm really lookin forward to see who steps up for that 5th starter spot...I'm gonna go out on a HUGE limb and say Danny Wright gets it...

i'm still not. after the last few years of feeling this team may put it together, i just dont have the energy to get excited. lol. maybe i need to talk to my doc about viagra! lol

but i really hope that we see some excitement unlike the previous reign of Manuel.

He may very well, and I'm not going to say he can't do the job, especially when healthy. However, I believe he can be a real asset in the pen. Short innings and throwing real hard, he could develop into a dominant setup man/closer sometime in the near future. With that said, as of now, I like Grilli for the fifth spot. I won't be upset though if Danny convinces them that he is better to fill the starter role, this is just how I see it as of now. Oh ya, I'm excited as can be as well. Going to Phoenix on the 10th of March through the 22nd to visit my friends still going to ASU. However, there are plenty of games in Phoenix (Sox away games and some others as well) to watch, and in addition I'm going to make my way to Tuscon once or twice. Hopefully to the Cubs/Sox game in Tuscon.

Whoa! I'm going the same days, except I'm getting there the night of Friday the 19th and leaving after the game on Thursday the 25. I cannot wait and I'm in full swing baseball now since official tryouts started today for the HS team. :headbang
