bigred3535
Was a good game overall. I sat in a small pocket of White Sox fans on the Diamondbacks side of the field (complete luck, don't know how it happened). Anyway, Grilli was unimpressive. I was expecting more from him. His control was off, and too many guys made solid contact off him. That said, he did a pretty good job working out of two jams. The only D'Backs run should not have scored as Rowand made a beautiful throw from center that was in time, but Burke dropped the ball. A terrible play by Burke as he had time to make the catch and the runner didn't even charge him, he simply dropped the ball. They made up for it later, though, when Valenzuela made an equally beautiful and accurate, albeit shorter throw, to get another runner at the plate. Rauch was very impressive, pitching three perfect innings. I would think that puts him in the early lead by a little bit for the fifth spot, with Wright, Diaz and Cotts just behind. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out. As far as position players go, Frank made some very nice plays at first base and hit a hard line shot that would have gone for a double if it had been about 10 feet to the right or left, instead of straight at the center fielder. Uribe's swing looked really, really ugly and made me wonder why the hell KW traded Miles, who seemed to be a good slap hitter from what I saw of him, for this guy. All in all, I saw some things that made me a little more hopeful for the season to come.
Rex Hudler
Thanks for the update..... It is nice to hear from someone seeing games live. A note on Miles. KW traded him because he was committing to Willie Harris. Miles could not have filled the role Uribe will on this team because he can't play SS. The issue is not Uribe or Miles, Uribe or another utility player. And of course whether Miles over Harris was the right choice. Time will tell on that one. soxman352000
I think Rauch should be the #5 starter. From your report it sounds like it was an impressive day for the big man.
