Venturi Claims Palmer Broke Masters Rules

By DOUG FERGUSON

In a book that will be released as Arnold Palmer prepares for his 50th and final Masters, Ken Venturi claims Palmer broke the rules when he won the first of his four Masters titles in 1958.

``Nobody, not even Palmer, is bigger than the game,'' Venturi says in ``Getting Up & Down: My 60 Years in Golf.''

``I firmly believe that he did wrong and that he knows that I know he did wrong.''

:fyou Venturi. Bringing up ld s*** that has been gone over for 45 years. If he didn't win an open in hot humid conditions he would be peddling sweaters to old guys in Miami.

How'd he do that? Did he do like Judge Smeales in "caddyshack" did when he kicked his ball away from a tree while nobody was looking? How the hell do you cheat at golf anyway?

did you read the article?

Venturi claims:

Arnie wanted a drop but didn't get it, and he ended up with a double bogey. Then he said he was playing a second ball, gave himself a drop, and ended up with par. Later they said he should have been given the drop, so he ended up with par instead of a double bogey. He later won by 1 stroke.

The rules state that you have to declare your second ball before you play the first one.

You must not be a golfer... there are plenty of ways to cheat. I mean, there are so many rules in the USGA Rule Book that you could bend any type of rule without your competitor paying attention. For example, your ball could move 1/8th of a millimeter while your addressing it, therefore it would be a one stroke penalty, but you'd be the only one to know about it if you wernt honest.

Most of my knowelege of golf comes from watching Caddyshack. That being said, I do play every now and again. A bunch of us get together sometimes and take enough beer with us so that we can have at least 1 per hole. Usually we dont make it to 18 cause by that time we're so trashed that when we look down to take a shot there's 3 or 4 balls there floating around. That's about the time we call it a day.
