Oh god, their goes my fantasy team.

Stupid autoranking took Sheffield over Bonds and now I'm without Sheff for a few months.  Why oh why couldn't I of made the draft on time  . Instead I'm 5 minutes late and Steve has Bonds  :D

Yeah, I guess that East Coast bias had Sheffield a little high ;)

His thumb?

Is that all?

Back in the good old days before free agency and the pampered jocks of today, the players would laugh it off and go back to the game. Now, they search for any excuse they can to just sit back, slack off and live it up.

Meanwhile, we the fans pay for these slackers through excessive ticket prices.

ESPN broadcasting an Angles/Mariners game just reported that the Yankees announced Gary Sheffield tore ligaments in his thumb and will miss at least 3 months. What do you think old Georgie boy will do now?

I read the link to ESPN. It sounds like you guys are jumping the gun a bit. It says the worst case scenario is he's out 3 months and it's possible he'll be returning before the end of spring training.

Hopefully he's out for the early games against the Sox at least. :)

On their Sportsnation poll, they asked how should they deal with the Sheff loss: These are the results at this time:

18.2% are in favor of bringing back Paul O'Neill

7.7% are in favor of moving ARod to RF

19% are in favor of reacquiring Soriano to play RF

54.9% are in favor of acquiring Shammy to play RF

He'll just go out and bribe the official scorer to add a couple of runs to their score at the end of each game.

They can have Shammy. He would be such a wonderful fit on that team full of prima donnas.

well this is the question we were all asking... what if someone gets hurt.  without adding anyone, they could take a chance and put williams out in the field at right, and have lee dh.  i don't think that would work out all that great though.

Your idea/analysis makes sense. The Yanks can always platoon the extra players at DH. Putting Bernie back in the OF is a good choice for them. I wouldn't think the Yanks can offer the Sox enough young talent for Maggs. I am still hoping that JR and KW sign Maggs for a long term deal.

I'm sure if the Yankees want Sosa the Cubs couldn't dump him fast enough, the problem is I don't think the Yankees have enough to trade for him, the Cubs would need a good bat in return to replace Sosa (I hate him as much as anyone, but he'll still hit at least 35 and drive in 100 this year). Without a DH in he NL it limits what the Cubs can do, and I'm sure they don't want to take a bad contract in return since they will be free of Sammy's contract after '05. But with what a pain in the ass he is (especially with this new BS about his "personal clubhouse attendant") the Cubs just want him out of there.

Also, Sammy has a right to refuse a trade. I think his ego would want to be in NY on a winner, but he probably would demand an extension which the Yanks may not want to give

The Yankees won't go out and get anybody huge. They have no reason to. If they get anybody, it would just be a fill in until Shef got healthy. What would happen when Sheffield got healthy, alot of egos f***ing everything up. They are just going to play with what they have.
