Sox option 4 out of camp

White Sox reassigned RHP Jose Santiago and LHP Vic Darensbourg to minor league camp.

Santiago gave up six runs in 3 1/3 innings this spring. Darensbourg was better, but there's no room for another lefty in the White Sox pen.

White Sox optioned RHP Jon Rauch and RHP Felix Diaz to Triple-A Charlotte.

Rauch did nothing to hurt himself this spring, giving up three runs, six hits and no walks in six innings. Still, he's just not a big part of the team's plans. A change of scenery might do him some good.

No way in hell i'm trading Rauch and Koch for Jarrod Washburn. Wash is making alot of money, and I'm not sure if he is even signed after 2004. I'd rather give Borchard to them myself.

If we knew we could get him signed up...I'd do it. However, Washburn is only making $5M....Koch alone is making more than that.....

Maybe it's just me but that trade screams "Todd Ritchie, Part deux".

It doesn't to me. Rauch is never going to get a shot here, and Koch is making $6 mill(and I believe Washburn is making about $5.5 mill this year, and is then a FA), so it gives us about $1 mill in spending room. It allows us to keep a different reliever on board(or allows us to go to a 11-man pitching staff) and then bring up Burke as a 3rd catcher or maybe a backup 3B or 1B every now and then too, and then when necessary, allows us to add a player via trade without shaking up the rosters too incredibly much.

Wouldn't bother me a bit, in fact, it would actually make me happy. Give Rauch a chance to prove what he can do. I actually like it when players do that kind of thing. Remember Esteban beating the Jays last year? That's the kind of reassuring feeling these guys get when they burn their former teams.

And, to an extent, allows us to maybe get a good player via trade from them later for a lesser price because they feel that they are once again getting a good player when really they are not(which is why the Ritchie trade could come into play with the Pirates this year if Konerko is ever traded and/or we need another stud starter...I would love absolutely nothing more then to trade Konerko for a solid minor leaguer to say the Dodgers, and then trade a 2 or 3 prospects to Pittsburgh for Wells and Simon...that would be tight as hell)

No, I also dont think its another Todd Ritchie deal. Washburn is alot younger, and he is just a little worse than MB IMO. The only thing is I dont see Anehiem doing it just cause of Percivil.

You are probably right about the Percival thing. However, I think Anaheim would take just Rauch for Washburn, but they get Koch as well, and that is really a win-win situation. If he returns to form, he is a major help in that bullpen and you then have Percival, Koch, KRod, Weber, Donnelly, and Shields as well...that is a damn good pen, and really, it only costs you $1 mill more. If Koch does not return to his 2002 and before form, you simply note that it was a gamble that did not pay off, and if you can, you trade him elsewhere for a bag of balls(or whatever someone would like to give for him).

I think Anaheim would atleast strongly consider it. Maybe tweak a few things here and there and it could be done.
