Hockey is Good

yes, i am so excited about Florida next season. Everyone knows about Luongo but they have so many highly touted prospects that are just gonna keep getting better (Bouwmeester, Weiss, Nedorost, Krajicek, Kolnik, Horton)

Hehe, don't forget Hordichuk. If they would only play him, he'd score 25-20 points a year. (Note: no Bias here, hehe)

well in my opinion it is essential that they remove the instigator penalty. Also, they need to remove the two line pass. It would help the flow of the game imo and reduce the effectiveness of the trap that teams do so much of now. A third thing, which i doubt will happen, is that if they widened the rink a few feet on each side, that too could make a difference. I believe it's wider in international competition but im not positive on that

Yep, in the olympics. I think it makes for a more creative game. I love passing and the bigger the rink the more passing and flow, imo.

well ya, of course. They have Hordi, Hagman, Beaudoin, Mezei, Shvidki and others too. I just mentioned some of their young guys who could become stars. Like Bouwmeester, Weiss and Horton in my opinion will be all stars very very soon

I dont think rink size has that much to do with it. What they need to do is crack down on the oversize equipment all the goalies wear nowadays. When I look at todays goalies and compare them to footage of the 70's or 80's the difference in size of equipment is visibly clear.

Ok, if you do that, then they need to do away with those damn carbon sticks that snap and break at every swing at the puck, which allows every one of these guys to shoot a 100 mph slapshot. Because of the new technology, EVERYONE on the ice can shoot really hard as compared to the older days when only the really good ones could get off a rocket shot.

I would love to see them get rid of the instigator penalty. If a guy jumps another guy give him a match penalty for intent to injure. That'll solve that problem. If two guys want to go at it, they shouldn't have to have the secretaries calling it other to get it set up. Drop the gloves AND GO! :fight

I am all for removing the instigator penalty and I agree with the comment about the two line pass. I also would like to see the rink enlarged as noted in an earlier post.

I think the goalie equipment needs to be left alone for now. They did reduce them leg pads somewhat this year (Lalime is one goalie that doesn't seem to be adjusting very well). It's interesting to see a little guy like Irbe  who doesn't use huge pads and yet still minds the net fairly well (at least since his surgery).

I found it hypocritical how Patrick Roy is now blathering on about how the pad sizes need to be reduced. :nono

I think if they really want to open the game up, they need to get rid of the red line. It would open center ice a ton. You wouldn't have to worry about 2 line passes so much. Yes you'd get alot of cherry picking but hey thats why a dman would have to drop back to watch out for it. Hench ending the ever annoying TRAP.
