KipWellsFan
i knew it would happen sooner or later bring in UGIE! Not sure if you're serious or not but if Koch fails we have at least one guy that can more than fill the role for less than 50% of the price we'd pay for Urbina. Doesn't have to be by committee, just make either Politte or Marte the closer. Can I just reitterate that Closer is the most overrated position in all of sport. sox-r-us
Yes, closer is absolutely the most overrated position in all of sports The runs given up in the 1st inning are equally counted as one in the last or the one in the 7th where some set up guy is pitching
SoxAce
Shingo wasn't sharp eigher. But you have to keep remembering it's only spring training and Koch can't be perfect every time out. Until today, he has pitched very well during the spring and some encouraging news is that he hit 97 MPH on his fastball. Even though some prople are happy about that, I just want him locating his pitches well instead of that velocity.
Ishmookie
HE HIT 97! (my CAPS isn't broken I was doing it for affect) YES! HE DIDN'T THROW THAT HARD ALL LAST YEAR.

He was pitching well with a 92-94 fastball and was locaing the pitches, when he tries to to pitch 97-100, he loses his control and struggles. I mthink his 3 runs in one inning today was mainly because of this.

I think his 3 runs in one inning today was mainly because of this. I agree. I think today was probably a test of the heater, just to see where the MPH are at. Koch needs to throw that gas for effect now, not as an out pitch. Whip one out of the zone, better off throwing it too high, just to give the hitter something to think about and "change the eye level". Then throw something offspeed low and get them to chase. Nothing earth-shattering, but it can be effective.

Capn12
Yeah, i was listening to the Brewers announcers. They said Billy got one uo around 97. Honestly, I'm not sure we wanna see that, because before today, Koch had been doing a damn fine job of getting his breaking pitches to hit spots he needed to. I'm afraid that if he discovers he can hot 96-97, its back to "Hey, I can throw this fastball right by you" mentality, and we will see some 450 ft lasers going the other way. YASNY
ll spring long I've been reading that Koch was going to suck because he can't get his heater above 94. Now he hits 97 and he's going to suck because he does that. I don't get it.

That sounds like something he should be working on in spring training.
C.Rector
i knew it would happen sooner or later bring in UGIE! Why spend all that money on a lackluster FA when we can place Jon Adkins in the closer spot? Adkins has tallied an ERA of 0.00 in 6.0 Innings Pitched in 5 different games. It would be a profound misuse of talent not to have him at least in the Sox bullpen, if not actually in the closer's role.

The only way Adkins has a chance to make da pen is if we send Grilli back to Florida. I think with the 7 man bullpen, it's pretty set; CL: Koch SETUP: Marte SETUP: Polite SETUP: Takatsu Middle Relief: Wunsch Middle Relief: Jackson Long Relief: Grilli
C.Rector
No, we should keep Grilli and send Takatsu to AAA.

I am also fairly confident that there is something going on in that arm of his that has not been made public yet.... I dunno about that Steff...before yesterday, like i said earlier, Koch has actually presented pretty good control. Actually, he has been spotting his off-speed stuff quite well. I have confidence that he can control his stuff if he is throwing 93-95. If Billy knows he can get it back to 97+, I fear that he will start the "I'll throw it by you" mentality, and we'll see some screaming lasers going out the other way.
