very much so.........

There will be some players in AA that expected to be in AAA and others that end up back in Winston-Salem that expected to be in Birmingham......

Should be an interesting shakeout...... guess we'll know next Saturday

I see alot of new players in the system that i never heard of.....

The Sox signed several free agents in the off season. Some will hurt existing guy's chances. I hate to say it, but your guy Spidale might be one of those guys that lose out.

I think most of the others will be pitchers.

I think Baj may be a winner after the Ginter trade. The Knights pen will need a good righty reliever and he'd have to be the first inline at Bham to go up. My guess is he now starts the season in Charlotte.

Plus, with Meaux and Munoz moving to the rotation, Bullard and Sanders are now 1 and 2 when it comes to lefty relievers.

That's exactly why it may just be a lefty that heads to Charlotte instead. Then again, depending on what they do with several minor league free agent pick ups, there may not really be an opening anyway. Overcrowding seems to be an issue with AA and AAA pitchers.

I do think Bajenaru deserves his shot at AAA, so I can't disagree with you in principle.

My guy?? I just have seen him play alot ( as well as alot of players in my 55 years)

and i think he has a big upside and potential. Great defensive player, alot of speed

etc.

Mike Morse is another guy i am a fan of. I'm probably partial because i live here and have seen this crew play.

I like morse...if he can get more power out of his swing, he could turn into something. He is definately built unlike most shortstops.

He's your guy because you have mentioned him several times...... You have seen him more than anyone else here. :)

By the way, what are your thoughts in comparing Spidale and Normand Martel?

you people will prolly think this question is so stupid...but by you saying spidale might be one of the guys who looses out do u mean losing out by being assigned to winston or being released?

I am totally guessing...... but my hunch is he could end up back in Winston-Salem rather than heading to Birmingham, where we all thought he would be.

This is only a hunch based on numbers. IF Reed, Borchard and Valenzuela are all in AAA, then you have to choose your AA outfielders from the following group:

Scott Bikowski, Darren Blakely, Micah Franklin, Normand Martel, Nate Murphy, Jaisen Randolph, Eric Welsh and Mike Spidale.

Charlotte will likely need two of those outfielders..... Micah Franklin will definitely be one. He is 30 and played professionally in Japan for four years, in addition to a lot of AAA time and a cup of coffee with the Cardinals in 1997.

The 5th OF may be Bikowski, but that would leave him without much playing time. Murphy could be the 5th OF there, if they even have one. Remember AAA carries one less player than the Majors.

Even if Bikowski stays in Charlotte, Blakely, Martel, Randolph, Murphy and Welsh are all possibles ahead of Spidale. Of course, a guy or two could be released or hurt (thought Bullard said something about Randolph not playing).

Blakely has four years of AA under his belt, so he isn't likely to go to Winston.

It becomes a numbers game when they sign a lot of free agents like they have (and do every year). Some guys get squeezed back a level.

While rosters are still not completely set, I am told there will be some surprises on the Minor League rosters. I don't have details, but I was told Birmingham would be a very veteran oriented club.

Some of the names discussed earlier in this thread may be changing places as well. There were several players released within the past few days from Minor League camp, but I have not yet seen a list in the transactions. Some may be slight surprises. Perhaps Mr. Bullard will be willing to discuss names in his chat. I don't know if they are encouraged to discuss those kinds of things or not.

THe Bham roster looks like it is pretty much set. I think we can carry 24 active players. There is 27 on the roster right now, 2 on the DL This is what it looks like now:

Pitchers:

Starters- Honel, Meaux, Phillips, Munoz, Yofu, Wing(on DL for a month or so)

Relievers- Bullard, Ulacia, McNichol, Baj, Smith, Keller, Allen, Fields(DL for a couple of weeks)

Infielders- McNeal, Yan, Reyes, Morse, Shaffer, Sasser

Outfielders- Spidale, Blakely, Franklin, Murphy

Catchers- Maldonado, Aceves, Stewart

Bull, by my count you have 25 players, plus Wing and Fields....

Thoughts on who goes and which direction?  lol

Any word on where Anderson and Sweeney will go?  Will one be pushed to Winston?

I think that is what he was trying to say 25+2 DLs to make 27. So one more cut is to be made.
