aboz56
Don't know if this was posted or not, from rotoworld: Rule 5 pick Jason Grilli has cleared waivers, and the White Sox are trying to work out a trade with the Marlins to allow them to keep him. Grilli will be returned to Florida if a deal doesn't get done. His elimination from the compeition for jobs, leaves Mike Jackson, Jon Adkins and Neal Cotts battling for one or two spots. The White Sox haven't made a decision whether to carry 11 or 12 pitchers.
CSF
I don't want to give up on Grilli yet. I hope the Sox can work out a trade (maybe send the Fighting Fish $50,000 to compensate them) to keep Grilli in the organization.
Cali
Just say no. He didn't impress me when he only cost money to get, and he certainly won't be any better if he costs a player, no matter how small a trade it is.
aboz56
I think this depends on what they want for him, if it's a low tier prospect, it's worth a shot if the Sox think they may need another starter later in this season and believe Grilli can be that guy or even be productive out of the bullpen. But I agree, we don't want to give up much, if anything for him.

If they need a starter for whatever reason, they have Rauch, Cotts, Diaz, Pachecho etc. in AAA, who are all better options, I think, then Grilli... Rauch shouldn't even be considered a prospect anymore in my opinion. He's been passed by Honel, Wing, Cotts and arguably several others. The Sox don't seem to want to give him a shot at the big league level. The other guys (Diaz and Pachecho) I am higher on, but I don't think they'll be all that great either. I think when you look at the Sox rotation this year, you've gotta look at 5 of these 6 six (Buehrle, Loaiza, Garland, Wright, Cotts, Schoenweis) and I've gotta believe that unless a major injury occurs, no one else besides these names will start a game. After that, I expect Honel and Wing to step to the forefront of the next generation of young Sox pitchers competing to make the big league club, easily surpassing Diaz and Pachecho, who in my opinion will never be large contributers at the big league level. witesoxfan
Rauch shouldn't even be considered a prospect anymore in my opinion. He's been passed by Honel, Wing, Cotts and arguably several others. I don't think Cali is referring to Rauch as a prospect. I think, more or less, he is referring to him(along with the others he mentioned), as better options as starters then Jason Grilli. The Sox don't seem to want to give him a shot at the big league level. Which is really too bad when he would be a solid starter in several team's rotations. I bet the Twins would do damn near anything for a Jon Rauch to just fall in their laps right about now when they have to go with Grant Balfour as the #5 starter for April(albeit 2 starts in April). The other guys (Diaz and Pachecho) I am higher on, but I don't think they'll be all that great either. As starters, I do not like their chances. As relievers, I think they have a solid shot. However, I have not seen them pitch, I do not know their windup, delivery, and stuff, so I can't comment. All I know is that they both have solid stuff and could be pretty good pitchers someday. I think when you look at the Sox rotation this year, you've gotta look at 5 of these 6 six (Buehrle, Loaiza, Garland, Wright, Cotts, Schoenweis) and I've gotta believe that unless a major injury occurs, no one else besides these names will start a game. But we have Kenny's best friend, the trade. I can almost guarantee you that if a starter is not putting up great numbers, or maybe we just need an upgrade - for example, say we're in mid-to-late July and Scho is about 6-5 4.50 2/1 K/BB ratio, WHIP of about 1.40 in about 100 inning - for a #4 or #5 starter, those are solid numbers, and basically, he is eating up innings and saving the pen. However, say a team that was expected to do well but did not, say the Mariners, and are out of the race and maybe a Joel Piniero/Jamie Moyer becomes available...I see nothing stopping KW from trading for one of them. If Montreal drops out(or not), Livan Hernandez could be had. There are all kinds of guys like that who could become available and help lead us to the promised land. Maybe the Twins would love to have Jon Rauch, I don't know. But I don't think comparing him to Balfour makes any sense. As of right now Brad Thomas or Seth Greisinger will be their 5th starter not Balfour. Balfour is going to be in the bullpen and he could be very very good there. I wish we had Grant Balfour lol. SkokieSox
You can't have too much pitching, and he looks to have promise. Guys in the organization are still liking him. Even if he just became a solid long reliever, that's still valuable. I doubt anyone would prefer Rauch, Honel, or whoever to be a long reliever, even though it could be beneficial for some of them to get their foot in the door. I like Diaz to become a good reilever/setup man in his future. Looks to have good stuff, but I believe his endurance is slightly in question. He has been used as a reliever in the minors, and has been successful.

So do I because he's an Aussie. If only the White Sox would send out more scouts down under.

Not exactly sure where or how I compared Rauch and Balfour. I just said I would guess the Twins would like it if they could have a Jon Rauch right about now. Though I do agree, I wouldn't mind having Balfour. I think he will do well in the pen. He has a pretty damn good arm.
