Chisoxfn
*Stolen From KipWellsPost* For those who missed it in the Game Thread. On the radio the Sox announcers said that they heard that Kenny is trying to trade Kelly Wunsch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now, with all this april fools crap going around, who knows if this is true, but if it is, then book it, the Sox will either use Cotts in the 5 hole (With Scho as the other lefty reliever) or they will be adding another starter (Odalis Perez, Washburn, Ortiz). Gene Honda Civic
I'd say the validity of this report is based solely on how cotts has fared vs. lefties in ST... I know his overall numbers are good -- he pitched another scoreless inning today -- but I don't know if he is a "lefty specialist".

I know his overall numbers are good -- he pitched another scoreless inning today -- but I don't know if he is a "lefty specialist". I'd have to think if the Sox are going to carry Cotts on the roster, it wouldn't be as a lefty specialist. I mean Munoz could always make the jump, but the Sox are going to be stretching him into a starter or at least figure that it will be for the better for him to pitch out of the rotation for the time being. I don't think Sanders has proven he's deserving of the job and Scho could easily fill that slot with cotts moving to the pen (But the Sox could do this now if they think Cotts is ready). This ultimately has me believing the Sox would get a starter, but the other question is, what would we get for Wunsch, who in my book has some pretty damn good value. He is a very sucessful lefty specialist and a great guy.
BobDylan
*Stolen From KipWellsPost* For those who missed it in the Game Thread. On the radio the Sox announcers said that they heard that Kenny is trying to trade Kelly Wunsch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now, with all this april fools crap going around, who knows if this is true, but if it is, then book it, the Sox will either use Cotts in the 5 hole (With Scho as the other lefty reliever) or they will be adding another starter (Odalis Perez, Washburn, Ortiz). Wunsch is a valuable part of our bullpen, as he would be to any bullpen. We are blessed with our lefties of Marte and Wunsch. If this is true, KW had better not undervalue him. HighHeat45
Then we will need another side arming lefty in the pen....BULL
Chisoxfn
The other thing that scares me is that our bullpen is already awful. I already don't have faith in Koch or Tagatsu. For some reason I got faith in Politte, evne though he stunk last year (Luckily not for the Sox). I don't like the rotation, but I can live with it, even though I have no faith in Elo right now and am a little nervous about Scho, but liked what I saw from his new pitches in spring, but god, that bullpen scares the hell out of me. Marte and Wunsch are two consistent weapons and I sure hope they stay healthy and stay on their game, cause its going to be needed...big time. The reason I said the deal was based on cotts effectivness vs. lefties was based on a few things. 1- Munoz supposedly being converted to a starter 2- sanders not being ready 3- schoe -- I believe he succeeds with us in the Starting rotation or not at all. 4- Todays outing --- cotts only pitched one inning -- at the very least he should have gone 2 -- Santiago and Majewski each pitched 2 innings after Neal. maggsmaggs
The only way to trade Wunsch would be if he were packaged with another pitcher and maybe a prospect for a solid starter: Washburn or Ortiz. I wouldn't mind bringing Munoz aboard because he is essentially a Kelly Wunsch against lefties. I think in AAA they only hit .130 off him. I am not saying we should trade Wunsch, but if we could get a solid starter, I think we need to. Our rotation, although still the best in the division, is poor in comparison to the rest of the league. Kenny will get a good 4th starter, because he always finds ways to improve the team on paper that is.
CSF
Bruce Levine said Wunsch is suffering from a left oblique injury. Maybe that would explain the lost velocity on his heater. He said Wunsch will probably start the year on the DL. On another note: Levine also said Mike Jackson & Jon Adkins made the team, but Jamie Burke unfortunately didn't. whitesoxin'
That makes sense, and im sure when Kelly comes back, one of those two will be sent down, and mabye Burke gets a call up. You'll have to change your sig if Wunsch gets traded, Tony.
Dick Allen
The Mets are looking to trade Scott Erickson. He doesn't have to accept a minor league assignment, and has pitched well this spring. Their bullpen only has Stanton and Franco from the left side. The White Sox could probably use Erickson, although I hear he is a Class A Asshole. Just a thought. I think the money is about the same. southsider2k5
I'll hate to see Kelly go, but we have a lot pitching depth and we could get some other needs filled such as middle infield or catching prospects.

SoxAce
Damn talk about a loss not just for the team and it's bullpen, but a great guy in the clubhouse. Man that'll suck if he's traded, but if it's for a good starter, than it's for the best.

I have also heard Erickson is an asshole. I want no part of him. Let's struggle through Scho and Wright instead of bringing on Erickson
upnorthsox
Word going around is that Wunsch is who KW was pissed at, still no reason to trade him unless you've got an alternate plan in place. Right now it seems like it'd be a scramble.
SkokieSox
I'm not big on trading Wunsch, but anything that makes the team better is fine. If this indeed happened, don't forget about Ryan Meaux. He's got lefty specialist written all over him.
upnorthsox
Good point on Meaux, wish they'd have given him more innings in ST.

Rowand44
If wunsch is traded I wouldn't be surprised if it was to anaheim, because Donnelly just went on the dl with a broken nose, and he was basically there guy to get lefties out, if I'm not mistaken they have no lefties in their bullpen, if we could some how swing a deal to get washburn, and give up wunsch, I'd be all for it. I'm telling you guys from a personal standpoint... you do NOT want this guy anywhere near our team. I spent a lot of time around Scott since 1998 and he is BAD news.. and has some very bad habits. Rowand44
Obviosuly, im a big Wunsch fan, but if we could get Washburn for Wunsch, and a low level minor leauger, I would also be all for it. I feel comfortable enough with one of the kids steping up in the bullpen as a lefty speicalist, and a solid starter like Washburn is defenilty a must. I completely agree, I'm a big wunsch fan, but if the sox could some how get washburn they'd have to do it.

If you could get Washburn for Wunsch, you would move Shoe back to the bullpen, and suddenly things don't look so dire anymore. I doubt they could make this trade without giving up at least a better than average prospect.
