Today's game is no big loss

I haven't read the board as much as I should have(so you will be able to use this on me ---> :nono ), but from what I can tell, the board seems to be in a negative mood. Why? Because we lost a game we should have won? Big deal. That s*** will happen to you several times throughout the year(they are called blown saves, walk-off homers, or both...the name "Carl f***ing Crawford" comes up now and then too), and you will win games you should have lost. Today's game is just magnified because it is opening day. Today, we started the year off 0-1, just like 15 other teams will start the year off. Hopefully, Wednesday, we'll win.

In this game, we got everything we needed to win, except for a pitcher who could close the whole thing out(which could be considered a slight mistake by Ozzie...maybe bringing Politte in during the 8th would have been the wiser move, but that move really means very little and this is one of those cases where hindsight is 20-20, and the same thing could have actually happened to him in the 9th again had he come in during the 8th). We get runs, some from homers, some from timely hitting. We were moving around the bases and were playing some live baseball - I saw a stolen base or two, the main one being Paul Konerko(who said he was slow again?), and there was a hit and run on too(I think that was one more hit and run than JM had all last year). We just got a bad break in there with Willie's bullet right to Sweeney's glove to double off Alomar(if that's up two feet or more towards the hole between 1st and 2nd, we're setting the table for a huge inning...maybe 1st and 2nd, no outs when Jose gets that double, and Jose is bringing in our 9th run of the game then, and more damage is done...who knows?)

Basically, we did everything we needed to do to win this game today, except to actually win the game(that's the thing you need to do first and foremost though :D ). If we play similar to that or better for 161 more games, I will be happy and I guarantee you that we win the division. The team I saw on the field today playing the Royals is easily a 90-95 win team.

Don't get me wrong, I'm upset right now. Who the hell isn't? We were up 7-2 and looked GREAT. Than POOF! s*** happends. I'm not saying that I think we're going to lose like that every game, I still think this team is capable of kicking some serious ass and making the post-season. Thank god for these boards though, otherwise I'd have no where to vent.

Here's to Wed. :cheers

Wow I am very pleased to see about 5-6 optimist threads pop up.  In the past the optimist to pessimist ratio seemed really low somewhere around 1:10.

How can anybody be optimistic about this team? There is no way to look at this team realistically and be optimistic. About what? Ozzie? Give me a break. I named my dog after him and I'm not optimistic!

Did you watch the game today? Because if you did, and you are not optimistic about what you saw... :headshake

Tony, just so you know....you and I feel exactly alike right now. When Lopez hit that homer, I turned the TV off, and started to walk away, but didn't finish that last part. I sat back down, thinking maybe Damaso could pull it out, and I saw Beltran step up, hit the ball, and when I saw Caballo at the wall, I turned the TV off, and just sat in silence for about 5 minutes. Sometimes, it is better to be lucky then good, however, that s*** catches up with you in the end. I can guarantee you that if we play like we did and they play like they did that 9 out of 10 times we win.

Man this loss hurts, no dening that, but I know that we'll win some and lose some. Hopefully tom. Esty can give us a nice "comfortable" win.

I doubt we win tomorrow.

This being true because we do not play tomorrow. :D

Loaiza always starts off well, so I bet we see a very good performance on Wednesday. I guess a 5-1 win.

Im sorry if I ruin a positive vibe going on here. But, let me put this out on the table:

We just lost to a division rival - who, if we beat them 7-3 or 7-4, we really shut them down, get into their heads a bit.

Our best reliever just got his ass kicked, plain and simple. He sucked in ST too, and has lost a lot of life on his fastball. Not good - his breaking pitches weren't breaking.

All of the momentum is on the KC side. I don't want to hear that there's 161 games left - we lost the Central last year by what, two, three games? You keep saying, it's just one game, it's just one game - well, those add up, and eventually, you're wishing you had those games back. Last time I remember a game like this, it was last year against Minny - the game where we brought in Paniagua. While we didn't lose that game, Minny took momentum away from that game, just by scoring some runs and ALMOST completing a comeback. That was - terrible, what happened. We had the game - our lineup hit the ball well, Politte and Buerhle pitched solid (Politte shouldn't have been left into the ninth, but I place no blame of this game on Ozzie), and then our one consistent factor, Marte, gives up two homers. I don't know what to say.

I'm not going to go crazy, I take almost all positives from the loss, except the performance of Marte - I'm confident Loaiza can get the job done - I'm confident our bullpen can bounce back - Koch wasn't really terrible, IMO. He gave up a double to Santiago, a pitch that was inside that Santiago turned his shoulders on and had a solid hit. Politte was solid - Ozzie has learned his lesson, though - Politte should be pitched at a maximum of two innings, no more. Our lineup was solid, we hit the ball hard, and only had two homers. Im surprised no one has mentioned that, we only scored THREE runs on homers, very good to see. Buerhle, no need to mention him, he was his usual solid self.

Lets go Sox, get it done on Wednesday! :bringit

Hopefully we can stop the momentum on Wednesday with E-Lo going. As sick as I am after this loss you must move on and bounce back. Marte is not going to blow games like this very much. We outplayed them for 8 innings. This stuff happens to every team it just happened to be opening day for us. :bringit

I love the optimism and this post, except I take issue with two things.

I don't think Willie's liner was hit all that hard if you check the

replay. I don't think we got a bad break on that play.

And I am really not optimistic at all about Koch.

I didn't sense he was pitching well like some of you did.
