southsider2k5
Bouwmeester is a great prospect, and Dudley's mission in Fla. this summer is to get an experienced, rugged defenseman to show young Jay how to play the big-hittin' game with the best of 'em. They get that, they will be fine... That's the guy I was thinking of...
kapkomet
Who needs defense when you have Luongo? And I'm being serious here. When you constantly face 40-50 shots a game, you don't last the entire season. Luongo BAR-NONE is the league's MVP and Vezina winner - and I know because I watched 60 + Florida games and many many other games this year and he was by far the most dominate player on the ice for any given team this season. But he won't get it because he had a horrendous defense in front of him. If he had HALF of one, they would be a 4-5 seed in the east right now. If they cut that 36 shot a game average down to the high 20's, Luongo becomes that much more deadly IMO.
israel4ever
This is another kick in the nuts. What a terrible 24 hour period. First the Sox blow it and now this. Washington jumps from #3 to #1, Pittsburgh goes from #1 to #2 and the Hawks go from #2 to #3. The main thing is Ovechkin and Malkin are sitting at #1 & #2. Both are ready to play and are superstar material. We will get a very good player at #3, but it is just our luck. I am sooooo pissed. If the #1 and #2 players are as good as you say they are, Wirtz wouldn't have wanted to pay them anyway. We'd have seen another lonnnnnng negotiation, like with Ruuttu. :fyou Wirtz family! israel4ever
Wirtz had to orchestrate this so he wouldn't have to pay such a large signing bonus. Hmmmm! Makes ya wonder!

I could still see him winning the Vezina. 25 wins, 7 shutouts, and 3rd in the league in save pct. Having a 2.43 GAA to go along with a .931 save pct tells you a lot though about the team playing in front of him. Brodeur only saved .917 pct of his shots and wound up with a 2.03. And then there's Razor with his .926 and 2.05.

If they cut that down to high 20's, there's a whole lot less flukey goals that go in. The man was amazing this year and deserves some hardware... but he won't get it because he has 33 losses to go along with all those rubber marks from getting pelted all year and it certainly is not his fault. Turco had too bad of a start, but I think Evgeni Nabokov will win it just ahead of Luongo and Broduer.

But there were a lot of people jumping on the Luongo bandwagon late season, and deservedly so. And Nabokov certainly doesn't deserve it, Turco played a much better season then Nabokov overall. I always thought Luongo was good, but I didn't know exactly how good until the Bruins played them in late January. Luongo stopped 43 out of 44 shots, the only one that went past was a shot he had no chance on with 16 seconds left. The Bruins just couldn't do anything to solve him, it was amazing. I never bet against him because of games like that where he can just steal the win.

Turco was CRAP in the 1st half of the year, Dave Tippett almost got fired because Dallas was playin so bad. Nabokov had a far more consistent year. kapkomet
Turco was CRAP in the 1st half of the year, Dave Tippett almost got fired because Dallas was playin so bad. Nabokov had a far more consistent year. Dallas, being where I live and that's the NHL entertainment around here, I went to almost all their games this year, and when Dallas was losing, they were losing 1-0 and 2-1 except for about the first 15 games of the year. Turco saved their ass more then you know, but they couldn't put the puck in a 10 by 10 net at that point in the season. Mike Modano has become a marginal player at best, and their defense took a huge hit losing Hatcher, you want to know how big? Look at Matvitchuk, THE GUY to replace Hatcher, now a -5 in two games against Colorado in the playoffs. So, why did Turco suck? He didn't. Their defense did and their offense was worse. So he got blamed on things that weren't his fault. THAT might keep him from winning the Vezina but Nabokov shouldn't.
