LDF
on why ozzie was hired as gm................. was there anyone who was out there in the running that might have been a better choice? i do not like this move, why couldn't jr go out and hire a real gm for once instead of this experiment bs. Chisoxfn
Lol...Ozzie was hired because the Sox think he can do what Tony Pena did. Had Pena not done such an amazing job with the Royals last season, then I don't think Ozzie woudl of had much of a shot. JM had this team lolly gagging and the Sox felt Ozzie was the right type of attitude to fire this guys up and keep them lose. He's going to make mistakes, but I think he can get the job done. As far as Kenny, he's really improved since becoming GM..at least in my book.
Rooftop Shots
As far as Kenny, he's really improved since becoming GM..at least in my book. I agree! Let's face it, except for the David Wells, and Todd Ritchie deals, KW brought us a lot of good quality. Only problem is he got snake bit a lot. The guy wants to win ....no doubt. Big problem now is that I feel his hands are tied by Mr. fat-wallet Reinsdorf.
Old Socks
Kenny has a few more skeletons in his closet: such as not having the ovaries to fire JM last year; not only trading for Koch but then giving him $12 MM over two yrs; Berry/Barry; overpaying for Konerko and Clayton; all of his mid-season trades last summer, except for Jiminez; and not firing JM last year, or did I mention that? WHarris1
overpaying for Konerko Can we give him a chance to see how he does this year?? Or are we just gonna write him off right now?

Cito Gaston wanted to name his own, not KW's, coaches and wanted to actually act as and be the manager without KW interferance and then as bonus Ozzie was so eager for the job he not only agreed to a lap dog but he works cheap.... .... there is that story. take one's pick! witesoxfan
Can we give him a chance to see how he does this year?? Or are we just gonna write him off right now? I disagree with most of what Old Socks has. However, he is not talking about what Konerko will do on the field, he is talking about how much he is worth and how much he is actually getting paid. Konerko is really worth $3-5 mill, and he is getting damn near $8 mill a year. IMO, to earn $8 mill, he will have to put up .310 30 110 .900 OPS(and while we're at it, 20-30 SBs would be good too ). Also, if he had a season where he didn't pull a Jekyll and Hyde on us and be s*** one half and being the s*** the other, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with him. And of course, I can't comment about his speed, or lack thereof, anymore now can I?
LDF
jas, jas, jas why would you bring this subject again about kw knowing what he is doing. a year in trade revisited.............. getting evertt and losing who, how did that help? are we even getting a draft pick for losing him? how bout some of the other trades????? better yet, how has koch help?????????? we did agree not to get into this ............. just a friendly reminder. YASNY
I'm going to break this down and address each point. 1. Not firing JM. Agreed. JM should have been canned in late May or about the time the Sox promoted Walker. However, the club did turn around and temporarily saved his job. That was a lucky break for JM. 2. Koch. How could Kenny foresee Koch would lose his heater? He had it in Arizona in 2003. On the surface, the Koch/Foulke trade looked like a prudent move at the time, considering Foulke was on the free agent exit ramp. 3. Which Berry/Barry is which and what was the other one done? This is a non-issue in my book. Rookie mistake that had no negative consequences. 4. Konerko. Overpaid, yes. But if he hits like we all know he can, not by much. 5. Clayton. A huge mistake any way you look at it. 6. Mid-season trades. If KW did nothing and we lost by 4 games, it would be because he didn't do anything. He tried. It didn't work. I give him credit for going for it and don't begrudge those trades one iota.

More Corpseball. Gaston has proven he can manage a WS Champ, but his demeanor was too similar to JM for this team. IMHO
