The official "Put Urible at SS" Thread

I think Jose needs many more times at bat against lefties before he is comfortable. Now that I'm thinking about it, it is probably also carrying over to his ABs against righties as well.

I'm not too worried about his defense. I suspect he will go many more weeks without an error.

I would rather have Jose and Maggs then Garciaaparra and whomever we would ahve gotten for Jose.

Uribe should play often against lefties. Jose "All or Nothing" Valentin has looked so bad against lefties this year.

You think Jose is bad against lefties from the left side?

You haven't seen Willie Harris, have you? Uribe can't play both positions at once.

I've always said I'd rather have Jose for 2 Mill than Garciaparra at 13 -- even before Nomar hurt his wrist and lost his HOF specialness.....But I have NO idea what Sox were thinking picking up Jose's option at 5 Mill when based on his comments, he was willing to sign a 2-year/4.5 Mill type contract just a few weeks before.

Jose Valentine got back his 2errors with a two run homer. Its still just the 5th game of the season, give him some time.

True, but homers will not always help you in key situations. I don't care if a guy had 4 homers in a game, if he makes that key error, your team not only loses the game, but loss confidence in that guy and his defense. If that pitch didn't hang, Valentin probably would have struke out plain and simple.

Oh yeah...1 base versus 16....

Oh and "key errors" Jose Valentin made since 2000 can be counted on Bart Simpson's left hand. I remember one in Minnesota last May, but then again all of Sox runs came courtesy of his bat, so they lose either way.

Confidence? The next time Jose leaps and takes away a would-be 2-run gapper by Jacque Jones to save Mark's ERA and W-L record as he did last September at USCF....No, that coouldn't possibly instill confidence

Trade Valentin while his value is still relatively high. A team like Boston who needs middle infielders might take a chance on him, KW should make it into a 3 way deal, to get Kata or Hairston from Arizona, or Figgins or Amazenga from Anaheim. Uribe is cheap, not arbitration elgible for bout 2 years I think, and has a lot of talen. He didn't hit .300 for nothing ya know.

First of all, I was saying that in regards to chisoxfanjoe's remark of homers always redeeming a player from errors, it was notregarding you Brando. Second, I already know about Valentin's defense. He always makes the good plays it was more if can he throw it straight to first in time. And he makes a good play every once in a while so what? I can name countless times El Caballo made catches last year that were big game in and game out, and Torii Hunter robbing the hell outta everyone in every game. I would gladly take a Carlos Guillen or a Cabrera type SS for this team anyday of the week. We have plenty of offense already. A good defensive man is more needed IMO.

Actually, his value WAS high a week ago as he was coming off by far his best spring training, both defensively and at the plate.

Now, it's been literally cut in half, so if you want to trade him, you might want to wait until the weather gets hot.

Of course, it could help that many SS (Berroa, both Alex Gonzalezes, Jeter, Furcal, Vizquel, Renteria, etc) are playing like s*** right now......but I doubt you'll get Kata at this point.

And for the last time....Sox will NOT get Amazenga. It will not happen. Not because he is good, but because Angel GM is not stupid. You'll get Edwin Jackson sooner.

I think the whole JosE6 deal is just poking fun at him a little bit. Every Sox fan worth his salt knows that Valentin is the best man for the job and if having Royce "The Choice!!!!!!!" K-layton at SS in 2001 didn't cement that then nothing will.

I have a big problem with people who always say stuff like that. Why get rid of a guy who is not only performing pretty damn well, an error nonwithstanding, but is the soul of this team for some prospect or 2 who wont play for a few years.
