DonkeyKongerko
I don't mind Steve Stone. He's got a decent baseball mind and is probably the least homer announcer in this town. Seriously doesn't Chicago have some of the biggest homers in the country with Chip, Hawk, and Mr. Santo?? What will the Cubune headline say about Maddux's outing tomorrow?? Any guesses? BrandoFan
Whoa....the way Maddux has pitched today, a good hitting team, specially in the AL, would have CRUSHED him into oblivion. Something like 14 baserunners in 3+ innings -- and a couple of of HARD hit outs to the outfield that would have been hits during summertime. BrandoFan
No man, it should all go to Chris Stynes. With runner at 2nd and 3rd, no outs, Maddux starts feeding batting practice hanging sliders to this no-hitting, no-fielding scumbag and instead of spraying a drive somewhere, Stynes pops it up, which screws up their entire inning because automatic out Benson is hitting next..... Should be 6-2 Pirates. Add another towering achievement to Chris Stynes's resume...leaving bases loaded this time after some rookie scrub fell behind 2-0.... :fyou Maddux is only charged with 5 ER. Cubs are still in it.

CSF
Mike Kiley's column tomorrow in the Cub-Times: MADDUX EFFICIENT IN RETURN TO WRIGLEY Never mind the 5 walks in 3 2/3 of an inning. His pitches were close enough to the strikeout to warrant positive things down the road.
DonkeyKongerko
Sabathia and the Tribe lead the Twinkies 4-0 in the 4th inning. Here's an idea Eric Wedge, leave C.C. in for 9 innings!!

SoxAce
Hmmm..I wonder what we could give up to get C.C. Sabathia. He's a lefty, who's young, and can give you innings. I'm sure it's a long shot cause he's in our division but I wonder if anyone would be opposed to getting him..

southsideirish
I am not watching the game (keeping an eye on MLB.com Gameday), but can someone please tell me what sense the double switch made there? This essentially makes Sosa the leadoff hitter and Walker the #8 hitter as the pitcher is now batting in the # 3 spot in the lineup. I would understand if this was later in the game, but it is only the 6th inning. I don't understand this reasoning. Anyone?

SoxFan562004
This is what I think the Cubune headline will be.... Wrong Maddux Takes the Hill for The Cubs by Steve Sullivan In an unfortunate error Dusty Baker sent Mike Maddux to pitch for the Cubs in their 2004 home opener. Mike Maddux, older brother of Greg "God" Maddux, has been retired for many years from professional baseball. This mistake would explain the horrible performance of the guy wearing the Cubs uniform with the name "Maddux" on it, because there's no way that Greg Maddux would perform this bad. When asked about the mistake Cubs GM Jim Hendry said "Well that explains a lot. I was really confused on what was happening to Maddux because I know I can never make a mistake and be completely wrong about a player.... oh yeah, the beer is still cold at Wrigley." When asked how he accidently sent the wrong Maddux to pitch Cubs manager Dusty Baker responded, "Well I was a little busy looking at a picture my son Darren drew for me, you should see it, it is of me and him dancing in a field. Anyways, when I was looking at it I just yelled 'Maddux, go out there and take the field', so I didn't REALLY specify which Maddux. Oh yeah, Prior's health is fine." When reached for comment Greg Maddux explained why his brother pitched in his place, "I was planning to pitch for the Cubs today, but from what all the Cubs fans and newspapers reported I thought I didn't actually have to throw a ball. I thought that Dusty would just write my name on the line-up card and the other team and MLB would give me credit for pitching 7 innings and only giving up 2 runs. By the time I realized that I actually had to take the field and throw the ball it was too late, so Mike went ahead and threw for me. That didn't work out well because he's been retired for about 53 years now. Oh yeah, I would like to thank Mr. Boras for getting me a ridiculous amount of money for my current skill level." The Cubs released the following statement about the situation: Everything is OK, come out drink some beer and look at some overrated woman. We promise next time Mike Maddux won't pitch when Greg Maddux is scheduled. (Allthough we can't guarantee some other family member won't pitch for him).
